Distributor A24 is facing criticism from the community as a result of its alleged use of AI to create drawings for the film Civil War.
The pictures, which A24 posted this week to its official Instagram account, depict war-torn scenery that aren’t in Civil War but are consistent with the movie’s set-up of a United States that has collapsed into warring factions. They include an underwater view of Las Vegas, with the Sphere reduced to burned-out dust; a photo of military-surrounded New York’s Washington Square Park; men patrolling the lakes of Echo Park Lake in Los Angeles, along with a view of the lake.
Fans have expressed disapproval over A24’s visible inconsistency with its reputation for championing filmmaker filmmakers and independent film, which has turned to AI technology to promote one of its titles.
“Fire the person who approved this wastes. It’s disgusting and disrespectful to your visitors, ” one commenter posted.
