Liberals are no longer in the majority. Democrats seized on a Democratic surrender on Friday in a remarkable historical development to power the House floor’s agenda.
A shocking 165 Democrats voted for Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA ) proposed rule to allow a$ 100 billion supplemental package for foreign aid on Saturday. On last passage, the House will have four votes on each of those bills, including a costs funding Ukraine worth tens of billions of dollars from American taxpayers.
Seldom do minority party members support a procedural rule that allows the majority party’s plan to pass the House. Â Doing so in such quantities is outrageously extraordinary.
For the first time in recorded history, the House Rules Committee relied on minority group votes to override objections from the lot and improve a law bill to the House floor. The earliest history was made on Thursday, just before midnight.
The strong House Rules Committee, known as the” the Speaker’s Committee” for the authority the speaker of the House has over the council and its status as a rubber stamp for the speaker’s plan, creates the floor plan for the House through what are known as guidelines.
Johnson disregarded record and abandoned his own party despite its small but significant lot. The majority party has essentially taken control of the bills that may occur before the House thanks to more Democrats voting to enhance the House’s agenda than Republicans.
In the end, 151 supported the law, with merely 39 Republicans in opposition. The ultimate score was 316 to 94.
Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY ) no longer serves as a minority leader. He has taken over.
