Olivia Munn describes how having her body for the first time after having her surgery was a” shock to [her ] system” and how her emotional reaction to having her double mastectomy affected her decision. ”
Munn said in a new interview that while her physicians assured her that she looked “fantastic” at her post-surgery examination, she had “such a hard time” when she saw the aftereffects of the 10-hour activity.
“ I remember simply looking in the mirror with him and merely having no feelings, only taking in what he was saying, ” she told Citizens. “ When I got home, I undressed and looked in the mirror again, and that ’s when I just absolutely broke down. I only thought, ‘Oh my dear, this is what I look like, and I don’t need to look at myself right nowadays’ and that was really hard. ”
This is her first day revealing officially about her breast cancer diagnosis, procedures, and treatment since she ; announced the diagnosis Munn claimed in March that she had chosen tissue expanders rather than quick rhinoplasty surgery. She did rhinoplasty work a few months later, which she claimed made her feel more at ease with her body.
“It’s much better, but it ’s not the same, and that ’s OK because I’m here, ” she said. “And I’m OK with that today. ”
To reduce the risk of cancers returning, Munn started testosterone suppression treatment in November, which put her into clinically induced ovulation. Munn said that despite the physically and emotionally challenging aspects of treatment, she feels “extremely grateful” that she is cancer-free.
“The Newsroom” sun said her examination came soon after she had overcome a time of maternal anxiety, which she described as being at “a 100” on a scale of 1 to 10 after she had her child, Malcolm, with her companion, actor John Mulaney. She said that just after the panic symptoms lifted, she got her cancer treatment.
“ I have n’t really felt like I’ve been back in the body that I knew before, ” she said. “ But that ’s OK for me, it truly is. I’m so glad that I managed to get through it that I’m proud of myself for what I went through even though I still have some injuries, holes, and bathing suits. ”
For Munn, it has been “healing ” to share her diagnosis and the details of her recovery journey. She is embracing her position as a proponent of more frequent breast cancer checks and raising awareness.
“ I hope by telling this story more people learn about the completely, online test that saved my life, the Tyrer-Cuzick score, ” she wrote Wednesday on her Instagram account. In the hope that it will help other breast cancer survivors, she is also sharing her experience of learning to accept her scars, which she refers to as her “battle wounds ” and feel at ease with her body once more.
To discover how much of my strength and endurance I have, I take a very difficult journey. It’s more than I thought I had, ” she told People. Even though my body is very different now, I feel much more at ease in it. ”
