
SOFIA, Bulgaria ( AP )- Bulgarian customs officials report that they have seize 403 kilograms ( approximately 887 pounds ) of heroin found in a truck carrying Turkish identification on its way from Iran to Western Europe.
The heroin is contained in 618 plans inside the 156 formally recognized sleeping bags being transported in the vehicle. The drug haul was valued at$ 8 by officials. 5 million euros ( nearly$ 9 million ).
Haskovo local prosecutor Ivan Stoyanov reported on Saturday that the vehicle had been seized at the Kapitan Andreevo station on the Greek border. He claimed that the medications were allegedly from Iran and intended for submission in some of the 27 member states of the European Union.
If found guilty of drug trafficking claims, the Greek truck drivers was detained and faces up to 20 years in prison.
Bulgaria, which lies on a substance way from the Middle East to Western Europe, has taken substantial measures in recent years to avoid drug smuggling.
