In March, Swanton Sector Border Patrol apprehended a record-setting number of migrants crossing the country’s borders without authorization. In the first six weeks of this year, the number of migrants detained almost doubled from the same period last year.
In March, Swanton Sector Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia reported on a statement his officials made that hit 1,109 workers with unprecedented arrests. Garcia said the migrants crossed the French Border into Eastern New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire from 40 different locations, including India, Bangladesh, and Mexico.

In the first six months of the first six months of FY24, which started on October 1, 2023, Swanton Sector officials apprehended 5,170 workers, according to the CBP Nationwide Encounters Report. This compares to 2,688 during the same time in the then-record-setting FY23.
Of the 1,109 workers apprehended in March, 408 came from India, 323 came from Bangladesh, and 170 came from Mexico. The six-month entire for Mexico is 1,848 and for India is 1,603. The standard CBP review does not provide the six-month complete for Bangladesh.
In April, workers who are crossing from Canada into the Swanton Sector are still at large. Eight Mexican immigrants were apprehended in Rouses Point, New York, this week in a photo posted by Garcia.

During FY21, President Joe Biden’s first year in office, Swanton Sector agents apprehended simply 365 workers. The next month, that number jumped to 1,065. Almost 7,000 workers were arrested during FY23.

Workers apprehended in the Swanton Sector are primarily trying to enter the United States, in contrast to the west border, where thousands of migrants make attempts to retreat to the nearest law enforcement official. New York State Police responded to a record of two dying migrants being discovered close to the town of Mooers in March. A Border Patrol K-9 group alerted to a handbag. Two immigrant body buried in the snow were discovered while a search of the area turned up.
Authorities identified the workers as Abdoulaye Ndoye, time 25, and Ndongo Sarry, time 25. Both workers were identified as members of Dakar, Senegal. The workers died as a result of being exposed to the cold and wet environment.
