Rep. Former US President Donald Trump would lose his Secret Service protection if found guilty in his trial, according to legislation introduced by Bennie Thompson (D-MS ) on Friday.

The best members of the committee and the previous head of the now-defunct January 6 Select Committee, Thompson, revealed in a blog on X that the House Homeland Security Committee Democrats had introduced legislation to make sure “convicted felons sentenced to prison ” did not receive Secret Service protection.

    In a speech, Thompson said:

However, recent legislation does n’t predict how Secret Service protection may impact the criminal prison sentence of a protectee-even a previous President. It is unfortunate that it has come to this, but this earlier unthought-of situation could be our truth. Hence, it is necessary for us to be vigilant and up to date with the law to ensure that Americans can be assured that those whose protection status does not entail receiving special treatment and that those who are sentenced to prison may actually serve the sentenced person has to serve.

Congressman @BernieGThompson introduced legislation to make sure that offenders who have been convicted of crimes against humanity are not protected by the Secret Service.

The former Protectees Act, which prohibits access to unlimited resources and state sources, applies to those who have been detained and are DISGRACED. Protection did “terminate for any person upon sentencing for any person after being found guilty of a Federal or State act that is punished for a term of imprisonment of at least one year, ” according to the Denying Infinite Security and Government Resources Act. ”

In a truth strip for the DISGRACED Former Protectees Act, Thompson claims that the bill would allow judges to measure the punishment of individuals without taking into account the administrative concerns of convicts who are under Secret Service protection. ”

Trump is not mentioned in the bill’s language, but the truth sheet does point out that former president Donald J. Trump’s exceptional 91 felonies in federal and state authorities across the nation have created a new requirement that Congress must address to ensure that Secret Service protection does not impede the administration of justice and the criminal justice system. ”

The costs proposed by Thompson did “apply to former President Trump, ” according to the fact sheet. ”

In a post on X, Byron York, the general political correspondent for the Washington Examiner, noted that the underlying “obvious subtext” was that removing Trump’s Secret Service would make it easier for someone to kill him. ”

    York wrote:

Democrat Rep. Bennie Thompson ran the January 6 committee, which combined elements of present demo and real line. Focused solely on Trump, of course. If Trump is found guilty of any of the 88 felonies against him by elected Democratic prosecutor and a Biden Justice Department appointee, Thompson wants to remove Trump from the Secret Service. The obvious undertone is that eliminating USSS would make it simpler for someone to murder Trump, which is undoubtedly Thompson’s intent with H.R. R. 8081: The DISGRACED Former Protectees Act.

Trump’s hush money trial, which began on Monday, saw more than 50 potential jurors out of 96  rejected the first day after they made an admission of being unable to be impartial. 48 more potential jurors were fired on Thursday after saying they could n’t be fair.

In connection with hush money payments made to adult entertainment star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential election, Bragg charged Trump with 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree.
