As the House passed a$ 61 billion bill to support Ukraine’s war effort on Saturday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA ) and Democrats painted a bizarre scene on the floor.
Liberals produced dozens of small Ukraine flags, waiving them, and chanting “Ukraine!” as the result approached. ” joyfully.
Johnson approached the couch as the voting ended in the midst of the most audible applause of the day from Democrats across the country and possibly throughout this Congress.
“It is in violation of politeness to storm colors on the floor, ” Johnson admonished Democrats, who cared little.
Today’s vote was a real fact, but for decades it seemed impossible. Johnson had frequently promised not to consider international aid without second securing America’s personal border.
Johnson was given the opportunity to walk along the border as a result of Iran’s missile strikes against Israel last year. He had a parliamentary tool to add a border security bill to the bipartisan urgency to get Israel’s aid. Liberals would have had to choose a difficult election time.
It was the best leverage, either to enhance border protection or Ukraine– or both, if Johnson tried.
The colors that Democrats chose to storm drove home Johnson ’s decision.
