New York City Mayor Eric Adams ( D) claimed on Monday that Jewish students are “going through” the same experience as black students in Little Rock when they had to be escorted on campuses because they were afraid for their lives. ”
Adams said, “ I can experience the paradox of this time. I am aware of the suffering that is currently occurring in Israel and Gaza, as I previously stated. I understand what Palestinian New Yorkers are going through, and, in a quiet way, to show that. I understand what the Israeli[s ] experienced on October 7. And so the paradox of that time is essential. ”
He continued,” But I also look back to Little Rock, Arkansas, and what it meant for African Americans to become escorted on schools because they were afraid for their lives. And that is what I see when I see Israeli students going through this at this very time. In this area, there is no room for love. I don’t attention if it ’s hatred, Islamophobia, anti-Sikhism. We do n’t have a place for that, and I do n’t want to be, and I wo n’t be the mayor if you have to walk our streets, use our transportation system, or take off your hijab, yarmulke, or turban when you enter a university. ”
