At the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, Pulitzer Prize-winner David Mamet addressed a enthralled audience at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books,” DE I is garbage.” “It’s totalitarian authoritarianism. ”
DEI = Did n’t Earn It.
At the event, Mahat spoke about his just-released Hollywood memoir. Everywhere an Oink Oink ( my review is here ), the far-left Los Angeles Times wrote.
The playwright and screenwriter’s latest “gripe, ” wrote the Times, is those stupid “diversity rules that the Academy of Motion Pictures instituted for Oscar-eligible videos to help improve the picture of LGBTQ+, ladies, ethnic minority and disabled people. ”
The idea that the Academy “can’t give you a stupid fucking statue unless you have seven percent of this, eight percent of that … it ’s intrusive, ” Mamet said.
“The [film industry ] has little business improving everybody’s racial understanding as does the fire department, ” he added. Effectively, he said, “there’s no room for individual action. ”
After the fascist Times tut-tutted Mamet for his use of the “outdated term ‘transsexuals, ‘” we’re told he is no fan of gender-neutral toilets. “It politicizes the human intestine work, ” he said to a happy packed home. There were “guffaws. ”
Currently, Mamet sees the film industry as one in the late stages of the “growth, maturity, decay, and death ” cycle that “happens to everything that ’s organic. ”
More:
Although Mamet acknowledged that bias barred groups from participating in Hollywood for centuries, he thinks the pendulum has swung too far in the same way. In his book, Mamet describes the rulers of these variety, equity, and inclusion efforts as “diversity capos and diversification cadres. ”
Matet claimed that his political views have caused him to leave Hollywood more than his years. Fresh directors are interested in working with members of their creation.
“Nobody’s going to pay me a lot of money nowadays, ” Mamet said. “Nobody’s going to let me have a lot of fun. ”
Interesting how, since the movie industry initially started to be a movie market, older people have been subjected to discrimination in DEI.
How stale is Hollywood right now? How close to the “death ” part of the cycle? Three new large produces were ranked over the weekend: Things called Abigail, someone called The Ministry of Impolite Warfare, and things called Spy x Family Code: White. Together, all three movies made about$ 25 million worth of money. And this is what the sycophants at Deadline attributed to this exquisite failure:
What gives? Why? Many people waste money on advertising, skipping big box office sales, and avoiding lucrative box office sales so they can snag a subject into home entertainment windows and turn a profit right away, which is the same old, same old post-pandemic excuse. We are then, after all, in a world where success and success-optimization are two distinct things.
No, the issue is not that movies are bad, but that research supports the claim that people are aware of this.
Oh, and the superstars also chew. “Cheap” selling? It’s more like crazy marketing, having your sun run around disrespectful half your client base the week before your multimillion-dollar merchandise arrives in venues.
And still, David Mamet, the man who wrote The Verdict, The Pariahs, House of Games, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Spanish Prisoner, The Edge, Tickle the Dog, Ronin, and Heist, can’t find work.
Then, if you’ll pardon me, I’m going to get gay-marry my Blu-ray set.
