Judge LaDoris Cordell, a withdrew California Superior Court judge, announced on MSNBC’s” All In” that she would sentence former president Donald Trump to jail time for breaking a gag order but hold it until the trial’s conclusion in New York.
” It struck me when the city attorney said he appears to need that sentence,” host Chris Hayes said. He is essentially attempting to find himself imprisoned for some unfathomable cause. What were your thoughts on that?
Cordell said,” I think that is useless. It does n’t matter”.
Hayes said,” That is interesting”.
” Some people say he will go to prison and he will be a hero,” Cordell said. It does n’t matter. There are two reasons of hatred. One has two purposes: one to condemn and the other to deter future behavior. The fine did never deter, but incarceration does. The question is, does the prosecutor do it”?
She added,” If I were the trial judge I would in impose jail time. I would continue to support you if you were not in jail at the time of your sentencing, as that may put off the prosecution, which Donald Trump and his supporters want. I would continue to do so, significance I will sentence you to as much time as I think is appropriate and will establish that at the trial’s conclusion, perhaps while the jury members are deliberating. Nothing can stop the prosecutor from doing that.
