BEIJING: China on Wednesday blasted the latest package of US military assistance to Taiwan on Wednesday, saying that such funding was pushing the self-governing island republic into a “dangerous situation.”
After weeks of difficulties and contentious debate over how active the United States should be in foreign war, the US Senate on Tuesday approved$ 95 billion in conflict support for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. China claims Taiwan’s complete island as its own territory and has threatened to occupy it with force if necessary.
The help” seriously violates” US pledges to China, according to the island’s Taiwan Affairs Office, and” sends a bad signal to the Taiwan independence dissident forces.”
Office spokesman Zhu Fenglian stated that Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party, which won a second four-year term in office in January, is ready to “become a slave for external forces to apply Taiwan to include China, putting Taiwan in a dangerous situation.”
Lai Ching-te, Taiwan’s president-elect, stated to a visiting US congressional delegation on Tuesday that the support package do” enhance the deterrence against authoritarianism in the West Pacific ally chain” and “help maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and also increase confidence in the region.”
Since Biden first requested the funds next summer, the package has received widespread support from the legislative. However, a growing number of conservatives who question US involvement in international wars and claim Congress should concentrate instead on the wave of immigration at the US-Mexico border faced fierce opposition from legislative leaders.
The package includes a variety of components and solutions intended to keep Taiwan’s defense equipment operational. Individually, Taiwan has signed billions in contracts with the US for latest- technology F- 16V warrior jets, M1 Abrams major fight tanks and the HIMARS rocket system, which the US has even supplied to Ukraine.
Taiwan has even begun to develop its own security sector, building submerged ships and training aircraft. Next month, it intends to percentage its third and fourth stealth corvettes, both of which were domestically built and built, to fight the Chinese navy as a form of asymmetric warfare strategy, in which a smaller force uses cutting-edge or unconventional tactics and tools to defeat its larger foe.
China launches regular airstrikes into Taiwan’s lakes and airspace using warplanes and military ships. Additionally, it has made an effort to remove Taiwan’s some remaining official diplomatic partners.
Only two People’s Liberation Army aircraft and seven military ships were discovered working in Taiwan’s western regions between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, perhaps as a result of heavy rainstorms and reduced visibility immediately along the island’s east coast facing China.
China has launched dozens of similar missions over the course of a 24-hour period during times of increased tensions, many of which crossed the Taiwan Strait’s boundary, dividing the sides, or entered Taiwan’s air defense identification zone.
