No, Speaker Johnson Didn’t Cave On Ukraine Funding Because Of Secret Intel Briefings

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson is currently receiving praise from Politico and The New York Times for working with Democrats to pass a foreign aid deal last week that will take tens of billions of additional taxpayer money to Ukraine.

As you may remember, Johnson vowed to stop doing this until Democrats agreed to stable the southern border. He said this&nbsp, over and over, both before and after he became speech. &nbsp,

But what explains Johnson’s about- encounter? According to&nbsp, a fawning part in Politico, it was” disturbing meetings” he received after becoming speech. ” It was the knowledge, it was the Europe commanders who are in charge of the flexibility of the world and of course it was the innovations as well, all has escalated”, he told the outlet.

Johnson&nbsp, gave a related line&nbsp, to the Times:” I really do think the apple. If given the chance, Vladimir Putin would remain to move through Europe. I believe he may relocate to the Urals as well. I believe he and Poland or one of our NATO friends could face off. He said the same thing to CNN’s Jake Tapper last week, that he wants to make sure Putin “does n’t march through Europe”. ( Note now that Johnson has helped pass the Democrats ‘ agenda and has a detailed puff profile that was just published in The Atlantic ) )

Never mind that when it was trotted out over the course of more than two years ago, the Putin-will-marry-through-Europe collection was a bit depressing. It’s absurd and unjustified today, and no one truly believes it. Events on the ground have demonstrated very clearly that Moscow may also move on Poland or another NATO members and occupy all the country it claims to own annexed in eastern Ukraine.

What precisely did Johnson learn from these classified presentations? How did he enter a SCIF, a safe setting for grouped briefings, with one set of objectives and emerge with a totally different one? Did he find out that Ukraine was running out of arms? We’ve all known that for some time now ( the Pentagon&nbsp, said exactly that in January ). Did he find out that the defense recruitment industry in Ukraine was sluggish? That’s been&nbsp, frequently reported for weeks. You do n’t need to know anything about SCIFs or sit-down meetings with the CIA. You simply need to watch the news.

Sometimes, then, it was something worse, that Moscow is planning to use a nuclear weapons of some kind. If Johnson should come out and reveal as much to the American people as possible, as Politico put it,” It just took a higher level of intelligence meetings, granted to legislative leaders, for him to get up that old Cold War hymnal.” We are all individuals, and we can tackle it. We deserve to know where our billion are going and why.

That’s the core of it. If Johnson needs to come out and discuss himself if what he learned from his knowledge meetings was so terrible and terrifying that he suddenly opposed$ 300 million for Ukraine in September and gladly accepted$ 61 billion for the state last year. Because of that, it’s a hell of a 180 to turn around on a subject that has greatly divided the Republican Party ( a majority of Johnson’s individual convention voted against his foreign aid package ).

But let’s say Johnson did learn something new about an apocalyptic danger from the SCIF that altered his entire outlook on the war and rebuffed his earlier opinions on the part of America. In that situation, the appropriate course of action would have been to quickly close the border so that Congress could solve this fresh risk, as he had promised his electorates.

Johnson, however, did not address the borders. He feigned not to have done those promises, so he continued to push for financing for Ukraine, removing any utilize he had from Democrats to aid border security.

It’s really worse than that. His repeated guarantees to secure the border before providing more support to Ukraine were not fulfilled, but his foreign aid package will likely only make the boundary issue worse. The bill included “migration and refugee assistance,” which is distributed to NGOs operating along the border and tasked with providing funds and travel assistance to illegal immigrants who have been released from federal custody, and is estimated to be worth about$ 4 billion. In other words, Johnson is n’t just neglecting the border crisis, he’s actively funding it. &nbsp,

In doing so, Johnson has been able to give Republicans the proverbial middle finger and give Democrats exactly what they wanted on the border and in Ukraine, especially given that he has n’t even acknowledged that he’s changed his tune and kept his word.

Much more likely than not, Johnson’s see is merely the result of a crazy narrative produced by the permanent government in D.C. and dutifully trotted out by the program press to discredit his duplicity and make him appear to be a major statesman.

The simplest explanation for Johnson’s duplicity, however, is not some secret briefing that’s so terrifying no one can hear about it, but that Johnson is a foolish, easily controlled creature of Washington who was utterly ready, as speaker, to battle for Democratic voters and serve their interests. &nbsp,
