More than 80 times after joining the Army, a 102- yr- aged veteran from&nbsp, Chippewa Falls&nbsp, was presented with five medals and awards for his defense support to the&nbsp, U. S.

On Monday, relatives, friends and fellow tribal people from the&nbsp, Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe&nbsp, showed up with a crowd of military soldiers to celebrate&nbsp, Neil Korn&nbsp, and bless him for his Army services.

Korn, the oldest living part of the Lac Courte Oreilles clan, was also honored by cultural people during the awards ceremony at the&nbsp, VFW Post 305&nbsp, in&nbsp, Eau Claire.

Korn was born&nbsp, March 22, 1922, in&nbsp, Stanley, grew up in&nbsp, Chippewa Falls&nbsp, and&nbsp, Boyd&nbsp, and spent a lot of time at Lac Courte Oreilles appointment.

Korn expressed his gratitude for everyone who showed up on Monday at his prizes service.

” I like it, and I appreciate it”, he said.

    U. S. &nbsp, Rep. &nbsp, Derrick Van Orden, R- Prairie du Chien, who is the president of the Veterans ‘ Affairs Economic Opportunity Subcommittee, presented Korn the awards, which respect his services in the&nbsp, U. S. Army&nbsp, from&nbsp, January 1943&nbsp, to&nbsp, December 1944.

” In the country right now, things are getting a small sluggish. Today’s the day where to put all of that aside” ,&nbsp, Van Orden&nbsp, said. ” I’m here to honor and publicly acknowledge a person who has defended our rights now. I’m very proud to be here”.

Van Orden&nbsp, said Korn is “one of our government’s soldiers” and “part of the Greatest Generation”.

Korn was drafted into the&nbsp, U. S. Army&nbsp, at 19 years older and served in World War II as a personal first school in the&nbsp, 405th Artillery Battalion. He was deployed in east&nbsp, Africa, &nbsp, England&nbsp, and&nbsp, France.

” He served our country honorably, and we’re forever indebted to him for his service” ,&nbsp, Van Orden&nbsp, said.

Korn declined to speak at the time of the ceremony, but he did find teary-eyed a few times while he was being honored.

The trophies that Korn received on Monday include:

    * Defense members on active duty who performed virtuous and faithful service are awarded the Good Conduct Medal.

    * The Western- African- Center Eastern Campaign Medal, awarded to military support members who performed defense responsibility in the&nbsp, German Theater, with the Army Three Bronze Stars.

    * The World War II&nbsp, Victory Medal, awarded to effective work support people who served during the time between&nbsp, Dec. 7, 1941&nbsp, and&nbsp, Dec. 31, 1946.

    * The Germany Clasp receives the Army of Occupation Medal after serving for 30 consecutive times in a regular blog.

    * The Lapel Button honoring the support to the United States between 1925 and 1946.

Korn is honored at Lac Courte Oreilles.

Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal governing table member&nbsp, Gary Clause&nbsp, honored Korn during Monday’s meeting before Gary Quadarer Sr. presented him with an eagle beak.

Section referred to it as a great honor for the Indigenous people.

” This owl feather, as you know, comes from the eagle. He is the one who reaches the highest and most closely resembles the great heart,” Quadarer said. The hawk is highly revered by our American citizens all over; Turtle Island, and to us as American people, for the gift of an eagle feather is the highest respect you can offer upon another person.

Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal table member&nbsp, Michelle Beaudin&nbsp, read a statement during the giving of the bird. Korn was finally covered with a cover, another specialty of the Ojibwe individuals, Clause said.

Quadarer said a prayer for Neil and said he was appreciative of all the soldiers who had gathered to recognize a great guy.

” Many thanks for the extended life that you have given him to move amongst us on&nbsp, Mother Earth”, Quadarer said. And I ask that you extend his presence so that we can enjoy his company for many more centuries. I ask for his gifts, as well as those of his soldiers and family around.

Beaudin claimed that Korn’s reputation and accolades were a long time coming.

” I’m happy that he is still here so that we can watch this day and get the awards.” We have all sorts of military support among all&nbsp, Native Americans”. Beaudin said. ” They are our troops. It is the highest respect for us to fight in order to defend our people and offer our country.

    Korn’s home

Cliff Korn, a&nbsp, U. S. Air Force&nbsp, senior and brother to Neil, said Neil is the last survivor of his creation. He had eight relatives, most of whom lived into their 90s, Cliff said.

Roger Kubera&nbsp, stood alongside Neil for much of Monday’s meeting.

” Neil is the parents of my third- brother, who was seven decades older than I was. He wed my mom when she was 16 years old, Kubera said. ” On&nbsp, Jan. 6, 1943, he married my mother. On&nbsp, Jan. 8, he was drafted into the Army”.

Kubera claimed that Neil’s weaponry ship was struck while he was serving and that he had to devote 45 days on a beach to deal with the aftermath.

” We had to destroy the body”, Neil said.

Kubera claimed he was happy to support Neil.

” I’ve known Neil my entire career, and he is so deserving of this recognition”, Kubera said.

Neil said he thinks the key to a longer life is no drinking, no smoking and practice. He also works out 20 minutes each day, he said. Neil had his locks taken from him until two months ago, according to Cliff.

” He’s actually something”, said Cliff.
