AFP — The blade of the Moulin Rouge wind, one of the most popular landmarks in Paris, collapsed during the night, rescuers said on Thursday, just weeks before the European money hosts the Olympics.

There was no danger of more decline, Paris rescuers said. Unknown as of yet the cause of the accident.

” Luckily this happened after closing”, a Moulin Rouge official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

” Every year, the cabaret’s technical teams check the wind process and did not note any issues”, the source said, adding that there was no more details on the reason for the decline.

The source said that this was the first time a similar incident had occurred since the ballroom first opened its doors on October 6, 1889.

The blade system was seen lying on the street below, some of the blade slightly bent as a result of the obvious fall, according to images on social media.

The Moulin Rouge cabaret, which features peculiar purple turbine blades, is one of the city’s most visited attractions and is located in northern Paris.

It opened its doors in October 1889 at the base of Montmartre hill, and is known as the birthplace of the can-can, a contemporary dance shape.

It quickly gained popularity, and a stop to take a look at its wall or watch a performance in is a must-do on most travelers ‘ lists of things to do in the French capital.

The crash raises questions about whether Paris, one of the most popular cities in the world, will host the hundreds of athletes competing in the Olympic Games between July and August.

The only major accident that occurred at the monument was a fire that broke out during construction in 1915, which forced the place to remain open for nine times.
