In a statement on Thursday ahead of the crucial European Parliament votes in June, European president Emmanuel Macron is expected to describe his plan for Europe to become a more confrontational world power in light of the conflict in Ukraine and additional security and economic issues.
The French leader plans to focus on proper and political issues in Europe, including defence, the economy, protecting the environment and safeguarding politics, his experts said. Russia’s war in Ukraine, now in its fourth month, is expected to be the main topic of the conversation Macron may deliver at Paris ‘ Sorbonne University on Thursday.
Macron has frequently clashed with other Western leaders as he has insisted that Europe must stand by the country at all costs. France has been a strong supporter of Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. The French president alarmed European leaders last month by stating that it should n’t be ruled out to send Western troops into Ukraine to strengthen its defenses.
Macron, a staunch European, is also expected to rally support for his centrist Renaissance party ahead of the June 6- 9 elections for the European Parliament. The French president lost his majority in France’s most influential house of parliament, the National Assembly, after the 2022 election to the far- left coalition and the far- right National Rally party.
As Paris prepares to host the Olympic Games this summer, the social climate in France is still tense, as farmers, police, and teachers have recently protested. Following the significant demonstrations last year against Macron’s ultimately successful proposal to raise the retirement age, the protests came.
