Included in the party were alone minors and families with children.
Officials flagged the vehicle for assessment on the Chihuahua- Juarez Highway north of Juarez and it approached an immigration station. Officials with the National Migration Institute told Border Report that the truck contained 108 Guatemalan people, 22 from Ecuador, and a Peruvian without travel documents or philanthropic permits.
The agents said they were concerned about the health of the migrants, who were crammed into the box with no air- conditioning.
The group included nine families and 14 unaccompanied minors. According to the agents, the migrants were taken to a medical facility in Janos, Chihuahua, to find out their legal status in Mexico.
After that, the unaccompanied minors and their families were transferred to a shelter run by the government’s child and family services agency, DIF.
The unidentified driver was taken into custody and turned over to the federal police in Mexico for further investigation.
