California Gov. Despite investing in battery storage to store electricity for peak demand, Governor Newsom ( D) acknowledged on Thursday that the state still faces the threat of heat wave blackouts.
The , Los Angeles Times reported:
Gov. California continued to quickly increase power storage, which is essential to the shift to cleaner energy, but acknowledged that it was still no sufficient to prevent blackouts during heat waves on Thursday.
…
Newsom laughed when investigators asked if California now had enough power storage to prevent citizens from having to worry about blackouts when the state is in high demand.
” We have a lot of work to accomplish also in moving this change, with the kind of security that’s required”, the government said. But no, this is not now announcing that blackouts are a part of our past.
California is pushing to meet ambitious “green energy” and “zero pollution” goals, including moving to an all-electric car and truck ship despite the state’s lack of power generation capacity to meet growing need.
Newsom claimed during the 2020 blackout that the state needed to” calm away” about the state’s insufficient use of renewable energy sources like solar and wind power, but he continued to press forward regardless.
There is only one nuclear power plant left, despite the state’s efforts to shut down all fossil fuel species. Low water levels in rivers caused shortages of hydraulic power as well during the previous drought. Batteries, it is hoped, will aid with the gap.
