    Pro-Sanctuary City Democrat Mayor Fights Recall After Laken Riley Murder

    Athens, Georgia, Mayor Kelly Girtz ( D) is fighting a native recall effort against him after the death of 22- yr- ancient Laken Riley in February. Following Riley’s death, Girtz defended shelter area policies in private messages.

    Girtz’s attempts to halt a recall effort against him by regional activists are described in a statement from the Athens Banner-Herald. The recall comes in the wake of Riley’s death, which rocked the nation when Jose Antonio Ibarra, an illegal alien from Venezuela, was arrested and charged with murdering her on the University of Georgia ( UGA ) campus on Feb. 22.

    Kelly Girtz, president of Athens-Clarke County, is asking the state’s Superior Court to halt a recall efforts against him until the judge reviews the initiative’s progress so far. ]Emphasis added]

    In a complaint filed Wednesday, Girtz asks that the judge’s evaluation include an assessment of the sufficient, or lack of, of the premises stated for the recognize work. Girtz also asks that the court review” … the facts, if any, upon which the grounds in the Application ( for recall ) are based …”. ]Emphasis added]

    Girtz also contends that state elections officials allegedly handled the recall request improperly and infringed on state Recall Act regulations in his petition. With his complaint, Girtz is represented by a private attorney, and no state funds are being used to support his campaign. ]Emphasis added]

    The Democratic mayor was campaigning in sanctuary cities for immigration and customs enforcement ( ICE ) in the weeks following Riley’s murder, according to Girtz’s private emails, which were made public last month.

    In an contact, Girtz wrote that he supports the detainer plan because it is both humanitarian and follows the well-known desire of immigrants in the United States to be less criminally inclined than the native-born populace.

    As Breitbart News reported, according to Ibarra’s case document given to the Senate Homeland Security Committee, Ibarra was first&nbsp, encountered at the United States- Mexico border near El Paso, Texas, on September 8, 2022. DHS officers cited “detention power” as the cause Ibarra was rewarded parole and released into the U. S. inside.

    On July 19, 2023, Ibarra reported to ICE officers in New York City for a biological interview where he was fingerprinted. Ibarra had a previous criminal history, according to the effects of those prints.

    Ibarra was detained on September 14, 2023, after showing up for a child-related act. Despite the command, Ibarra was no prosecuted, and the imprisonment was expunged.

    Two months later, in November 2023, Ibarra applied for an Employment Authorization Document ( EAD ) with the U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ). On December 9, 2023, Ibarra’s job force application was approved.

    Less than three weeks after securing the job force, Ibarra was charged with Riley’s death. Without loan, he is still incarcerated in Clarke County Jail.
