Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY ) must have been taken aback when 200 protesters demanded that he stop providing Israeli military aid on Tuesday evening at his private residence in Brooklyn.
What did he do to receive this invasion of his privacy? Had n’t he denounced the Israeli government recently, demanding new elections to oust the left’s bogeyman, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu? Had n’t he been attacked by Jewish leaders, and Israel itself?
In the recesses of memory, Schumer might have remembered that he protested the Supreme Court in early March 2020 to warn the newly installed conservative justices that they would face personal retribution if they dared overturn the weak precedent in Roe v. Wade ( 1973 ), which claimed to have made abortion a constitutional right.
Schumer declared:” I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to show you, Kavanaugh, you have released the storm and you will pay the price. You wo n’t know what hit you, if you go forward with these awful decisions”.
Chief Justice John Roberts issued an extraordinary reaction:” Judges know that condemnation comes with the territory, but threatening remarks of this form from the highest levels of government are not only incorrect, they are dangerous”.
Schumer tried to return, claiming that he was not threatening the judges. But when crowds of activists gathered outside the homes of conservative justices in 2023 in anticipation of, and in the fallout of, the , Dobbs determination that overturned , Roe,  , Schumer said and did nothing. Even though such protests were against current federal law, the Biden administration did n’t protest either.
As he had predicted, Schumer was glad to see the magistrates targeted.
Schumer is now the target of the left-wing rabble that he helped to break up.
Another Democrats who when advocated for restrictions on free speech and defended the crowds that suppress liberal voices are also at odds with this. Over the past few years, those on the left who backed  are finding themselves the subjects of the very anti-free conversation methods that they helped develop, as Jonathan Turley has pointed out.
According to Turley, left-wing, anti-Israel crowds are yelling at Democrats who are alleged to support Israel in any way.
For crowd behavior has veered into racism.
At Columbia University, the extremists who have taken over the school openly support evil against Israelis. A Jewish scholar journalist was struck in the eye with a flag at Yale. At Harvard, Schumer’s old school, the crowd has set up camp, shouting “intifada trend”!
Schumer is now the target of the mob, most notably a group of people who identify as” Jewish” but have no other uses for Jewish identity but to trash Israel and who violated the Passover holiday to stage its anti-Schumer protests.
This sort of crowd action against any common official is greatly unpleasant — and, yes, dangerous. Schumer does not need any love from the rest of the region, despite the fact that he does need police protection from the mob.
This is the “whirlwind” he sought to destroy against the Supreme Court, and against liberals in particular. By advancing to the left into the anti-Israel sewer, he bought himself no defense.
To offer Shakespeare’s Stupid in King Lear:” Thou hast pared ye wit o’ both sides and left little i’ th’ center”.
Schumer’s group is expected to lose the Senate, and he will drop his strength. The public will have its say, calmly. Until finally, he faces the crowd only.
