Owatonna, Minnesota, residents took piece in a traditional event on Monday after design workers found a 104- year- ancient time capsule.

When construction workers were tearing down the top arches and windows of the Owatonna High School, they discovered a metallic box inside the rubble, according to Fox 9 on Thursday.

The spacecraft, which has everyone in the neighborhood excited, was buried in 1920 in the great school’s basis, said Jeff Elstad, the school district’s director.

” It’s always fascinating to learn more about the history of our society and the people who made the decision to build a fantastic class that would provide so many individuals for years,” he continued.

The capsule rests on top of the core, as seen in a photo. The field appears to be in good problem:

When officers opened the box, they pulled out some items, such as a lineup of the school’s faculty and officials, a copy of the high school paper, three local newspapers, and other documents.

The person who performed the task said he asked construction staff to carefully remove the 1920 basis because they wanted to save the top and cut off the front shortly before revealing the contents in front of local leaders.

” I said,’ While you do that, be really careful and flip it over and see if there’s anything inside it.’ And sure enough, they called me, and I walked up and saw this was inside the cornerstone”, he explained while lifting the box and setting it on a table.

” Really, really cool to see”, he added, then proceeded to take the lid off the box and remove its contents. Click here to watch the entire video for readers.

” While you never know exactly what might be included, many of the items, such as newspapers and local history, are typical of what is included in a time capsule”, Elstad commented. ” It was particularly enjoyable to discover the items that specifically shared information about the schools at the time.”

The Owatonna High School Museum Committee and the Steele County Historical Society collaborated to preserve the items in the box after the discovery.

Some of the treasures will be displayed at the school, and others will be placed in the society’s collections.

Owatonna High School Principal Cory Kath told KEYC,” We are really excited to have something like this preserved for that long and then be able to open it up and share with the community as it was actually being unveiled.”

” For a lot of us, it was the idea that, first of all, it was well preserved and the fact that it got to tell a story”, he added.
