After the head of state “opened the discussion” about creating a typical European defense armed with nuclear weapons, President Emmanuel Macron has been accused of undermining European sovereignty and military punishment.
According to Le Figaro, Mr. Macron said in an interview with the Ebra team of local European newspapers that” I support opening this conversation which may include the use of long-range weapons, the use of nuclear weapons, for those who have them or who have British nuclear weapons on their soil.”
This put everything on the table and examine what” certainly protects us in a trustworthy way,” he continued, while adding that France would continue to “keep its sensitivity” but be willing to make a greater contribution to the defense of European soil.
” Being trustworthy also entails having long-range rockets that would hinder the Russians. And there are nuclear arms. French theory dictates that we can use them when our essential passions are in jeopardized. The leader stated that these crucial interests have a German dimensions.
Macron’s feedback drew criticism from both sides of the political hall in France, with François- Xavier Bellamy, the head of the center- right Les Républicains ( LR ) in the forthcoming European Parliament elections, declaring:” A French head of state may not say that”.
” This is extremely critical because this touches on the very brain of European sovereignty”, Bellamy added.
Traditional populist National Rally MEP Henry Mariani responded:” Macron is becoming a national risk … After nuclear weapons, there did observe France’s continuous seat on the UN Security Council, which will also be sold off to the European Union”.
The Left also criticized Macron, who claimed that he “has really dealt a fresh blow to the legitimacy of French nuclear punishment.”
Macron wants to liquidate European proper autonomy, according to LFI lieutenant Bastien Lachaud,” under the protect of defending Western soil.”

France has remained the hapless nuclear-armed force in the alliance since the United Kingdom left the European Union as a result of Brexit. Globalists are increasingly pressing the need to develop Brussels’s authority and, possibly, to appoint its own dedicated army despite the fact that Britain’s atomic weapons are also available for Europe’s shelter under the terms of the NATO ally.
As opposed to the United States and the Soviet Union ( now Russia ), France has long adopted a nuclear weapons strategy of “minimum deterrence”, boasting an arsenal of around 290 nukes compared to around 3, 700 in the U. S. and around 4, 500 in Russia. The idea behind the “deterrence of the powerful by the weak” is that having the ability to launch precise strikes against an enemy’s essential infrastructure will prevent nations like Russia from attacking France.
France, a member of NATO, has retained some of its independence following its withdrawal from the Western alliance’s Nuclear Planning Group ( NPG), leaving the French president sole discretion over its nuclear policy. Weapons can only be used in extreme conditions for self-defense or in circumstances where the “vital passions” of the country are in danger, according to the nuclear doctrine of the state.
According to President Macron, such “vital interests” of France also have a” European dimension,” which implies that he would be prepared to use nuclear weapons in the event of an attack on another EU member state.
Macron, in contrast, stated in 2022 that his country would not use nukes if Russia launched an attack on Ukraine, stating that “our doctrine is founded on the fundamental interests of the Nation and they are very clearly defined. These interests would not be put in question if there were a nuclear ballistic attack on Ukraine.
However, the French leader initially favored peace negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow and appeared to be hesitant to escalate the conflict. Since then, he has since recast himself as one of Europe’s leading hawks, calling for a “debate” over the deployment of NATO troops in Ukraine.
