A Reddit thread on the subject noted that someone had dumped white ink on the intersection, despite the report’s lack of specifics.
University officials and the Carleton University Students ‘ Association have “encourage]d ] anyone affected” by the crime to “reach out” to the school’s Gender and Sexuality Resource Centre.
The crossing, which was updated next season with the addition of the “inclusive Pride flag”, was a” creative action” between the academy, the Students ‘ Association, and the GSRC.
The GSRC’s Val Hussain and Gabbie Cruz said pupils were “frustrated and hurt” by the crosswalk’s graffiti.
While praising Carleton’s swift response to the incident, Cruz ( pictured ), a “queer, non- binary person of color” who uses” they/them” pronouns, said they heard from students asking why the university could n’t do the same regarding protection of “other 2SLGBTQ+ advocacy initiatives”.

“]The crosswalk ] is a visual symbol of solidarity and the forward motion of our community”, Cruz said. This]response ] can be done for more than just a sign.”
Cruz claimed Gender and Sexuality Resource Centre banners” are often vandalized or taken down “around school, that Trans Day of Visibility” posters were” covered in cruel messages”, and school restrooms with “2SLGBTQ- diverse signs” usually are defaced.
Cruz even criticized the new paint on the intersection update from last year, saying it “looked like it had been there for years” and that it appeared to be being” treated with respect” instead.
At least one commenter on the preceding Reddit thread criticized Carleton for no renunciating “genocidal Zionist corporations”:
