ANKARA, Turkey ( AP )– Turkey has told its NATO allies that Ankara will back the Netherlands ‘ outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s candidacy for the military alliance´s secretary general position, a senior Turkish official said Monday.

Turkey notified Brussels ‘ officials who were NATO allies on Monday, according to the standard. Three days prior to Rutte’s trip to Turkey, the president’s candidate Recep Tayyip Erdogan requested assistance for his candidature. According to Greek government policy, the standard spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Past Norwegian prime minister Jens Stoltenberg, who has served as NATO’s top civil official since 2014, is about to retire. His mission had been extended numerous days as the ally fought to maintain a steady hand in power following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Turkey and Hungary, both of which are NATO members, had earlier expressed doubts about Rutte’s nomination, and Erdogan did not make any agreements during a combined press conference with Rutte on Friday.

Prior to the start of the competition for major European Union positions begins in earnest around the June 6- 9 elections, NATO officials and ambassadors want the election for Stoltenberg’s son finished by the end of April.

The potential conflicting problem should not be the subject of the group’s 75th commemoration summit in Washington in July, according to them.

The chairmanship of meetings and directing often fragile consultations among member states are the responsibility of NATO secretaries-general to ensure that an organization that operates on discussion can continue to work. They make sure all members ‘ decisions are taken, and they also make sure all members ‘ voices are heard.
