A New York City fire was laid off after being affected by the city’s cost-cutting steps to cover the ongoing migratory crisis. Months later, he died of a heart attack.

According to the New York Post, Derek Floyd, 36, reportedly suffered cardiac arrest and passed away earlier this month. Four months later,” the city gave him the boot as part of a larger effort to pare down staff and pay for housing and services for the tens of thousands of immigrants flooding the Big Apple,” according to the New York Post.

According to FDNY sources, Floyd and 10 other firefighters were given a pink slip this history Christmas after going on “long term duty,” meaning they had either been given extended job or had been out of work.

” Floyd, a senior who served three tours in the Middle East with the Marines, had been one of those working a desk job — toiling in the Fire Department priest’s office because he had a heart attack in 2019 while he was in the Fire Academy,” noted the Post.

Floyd apparently assisted in the planning of burial for firefighters who had passed away and had been working toward recovering from medical clearance.

Upon his suicide, Floyd left behind a wife and two children. Due to his firing, his family lost more than$ 600, 000 in death benefits.

” I would n’t wish it on anyone”, Floyd’s widow, Cristine, told The Post.

Christine claimed that Floyd’s firing possible took a deadly toll from his firing.

” I believe it certainly took a toll after they let him leave,” he said. He always tried to, like, stay positive about it, and he was n’t really angry”, she said. &nbsp,” But you see a man, and the wheels are turning in their brains where they’re really constantly thinking, so I certainly think it did change us”.

Although Floyd found employment at a veteran-friendly non-profit, the pay was considerably lower than his fire income and there were few perks. Additionally, he missed his two toddlers on occasion.

” He used to be so manifest for, like, our kids and stuff”, Cristine said. He claimed that being a fire was someone he truly enjoyed doing. &nbsp, He was truly a big- day, like, family man, he was all about his kids. Derek would have been covered by a life insurance policy with the FDNY if he had continued to work. Because it’s currently so terrible, that would have been more economically advantageous. &nbsp, I’m actually swimming in a lot of loan”.

The FDNY expenditure was reportedly cut by$ 74 million to cover the ongoing immigrant crisis, which has reportedly shaken the Big Apple to its base.

” The fact that the FDNY has a staff of thousands of firefighters is what annoys me the most.” Terminating]Floyd ] was absolutely unnecessary”, Uniformed Firefighter Association President Andrew Ansbro told The Post.

He performed an important task, and the FDNY in that system reportedly needed him. He was fired in order to allow the office to demonstrate that they were cutting. He deserved much”, Ansbro added.
