KYIV, Ukraine ( AP ) – NATO countries have n´t delivered what they promised to Ukraine in time, the alliance´s chief said Monday, allowing Russia to press its advantage while Kyiv´s depleted forces wait for military supplies to arrive from the U. S. and Europe.
According to NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg and Kyiv President Volodymyr Zelenskyy,” major delays in assistance have had serious effects on the battlefield” for Ukraine.
Outgunned, Ukraine´s forces have struggled to ward off Russian improvements on the field. According to the army chief of Ukraine, they were recently forced to retreat tactically from three settlements in the west, where the Kremlin’s forces have been gaining gradually. On Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that Semenivka, the village, had also been taken by its troops.
” The lack of weapons has allowed the Russians to advance along the front series. According to Stoltenberg, the lack of air defense has allowed more Soviet missiles to attack their targets, and the lack of strong strike capability has allowed the Russians to concentrate more forces.

Kyiv’s Western partners have frequently pledged to support Ukraine” for as long as it takes.” However, crucial U.S. military assistance was halted for six months due to political differences in Washington, and Europe’s production of military equipment has never kept up with demand. Ukraine´s unique manufacturing of large weapons is only now starting to gain momentum.
Ukraine and its European partners are currently putting pressure on to build crucial new military support to stop the slow, expensive but constant Russian progress across eastern regions as well as halt drone and missile strikes.
Zelenskyy said fresh American products have started arriving, but gently. ” This process may become speeded up”, he said at the news conference with Stoltenberg.
Though the 1, 000- mile ( 600- hour ) front line has shifted small since early in the war, the Kremlin´s forces in recent weeks have edged forward, especially in the Donetsk region, with large numbers and large firepower used to hammer defensive positions.
Russia even continues to build weapons, robots and bombs at towns across Ukraine. Regional government Oleh Kiper posted a message on the Telegram messaging page claiming that at least four people were killed and 27 were hurt in a Russian missile attack on residential properties and” legal equipment” in the southwestern Polish port city of Odesa on Monday.
After the strike, a turreted Gothic-style building known as the” Harry Potter Castle” was seen in flames.

Russia is a far bigger country than Ukraine, with greater resources. Iran and North Korea also provide weapons support, according to the U.S. government.
Drawn- out Ukrainian efforts to mobilize more troops, and the belated building of battlefield fortifications, are other factors undermining Ukraine´s war effort, military analysts say.
The war is still largely an artillery duel, according to Nick Reynolds, a research fellow for land warfare at the Royal United Services Institute in London.
He stated that he did not anticipate seeing significant front-line movement in the near future, but that” the conditions are being set for which side has military advantage at the front line.” At this time, Russia’s military is in a better position.
At some point, maneuver will be restored to the battlefield when we see one side or the other being in a position to move the front line. Not in the next few weeks, maybe not even in the next few months. But it will happen, “he told The Associated Press.
Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh, at a briefing with reporters Monday, also acknowledged Russia´s recent battlefield gains, noting that a delay in congressional approval for additional spending” set the Ukrainians back.”
However, Stoltenberg, the NATO’s head of state, claimed that additional ammunition and weapons for Ukraine are on the horizon, including Patriot missile systems to protect against powerful Russian barrages that ram into the power grid and urban areas.

According to Ukrainian officials, Russia is putting together forces for a major summer offensive, even though its troops are only making incremental gains right now.
The Institute for the Study of War stated in an assessment on Sunday that” Russian forces remain unlikely to achieve a deeper operationally significant penetration in the area in the near term.”
Even so, the Kremlin’s forces are close to capturing the strategically important hilltop town of Chasiv Yar, which would represent a significant advance in the Donetsk region.
Donetsk and Luhansk, which have been the focus of Putin’s Russian invasion and have been battling separatist fighting since 2014, make up the majority of the industrial Donbass region. Russia illegally annexed areas of Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions in September 2022.
In other developments, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh made an unannounced visit to Ukraine – the first British royal to travel to the country since Russia´s 2022 invasion.
Sophie, the wife of Prince Edward, met President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska in Kyiv and delivered a message on behalf of King Charles III, according to Buckingham Palace’s announcement on Monday. It did not make the visit’s location or details known.
Sophie, 59, claimed that she made the trip as a way to show solidarity with the victims of the war and as a result of her efforts to advocate for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence.
