Former Trump adviser Peter Navarro, a de facto social slave of the Biden government, was denied for a second time by the Supreme Court in a request to leave while he files an appeal for contempt of Congress.
Navarro, 74, has been in the Federal Correctional Institute in Miami since late- March, after a district judge sentenced him to four months in prison for defying a parliamentary subpoena issued by past Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s one- sided, socially- determined Jan. 6 find committee.
He is the second former White House national to be imprisoned for disobeying the law. Steve Bannon, a subsequent former Trump director, was also found guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress and given a four-month sentence, but the judge who oversaw his case put the word on hold while Bannon files an appeal.
” Navarro has argued that he believed he was bound by professional pleasure when he defied the summons,” according to CBS News, but the judge overseeing the case determined there was no proof that the pleasure was always invoked. A three-judge section on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit rejected Navarro’s request to postpone his sentence, finding that he is unlikely to win a new test or have his judgment overturned.
In a registration to the Supreme Court, Navarro’s lawyer, Stanley Woodward, argued that his customer “is definitely either a flight risk nor a threat to public health should he be released pending appeal”.
A senior presidential advisor was found guilty of contempt of Congress after asserting executive privilege over a congressional subpoena for the first time in the history of our country. Dr. Navarro has filed an appeal and will raise a number of issues on appeal that he believes will likely lead to the reversal of his conviction or a new trial.
Chief Justice John Roberts resisted Navarro’s initial plea to remain free while he pursued the appeal the day before he was imprisoned. According to CBS News, the former Trump aide renewed his request to Justice Neil Gorsuch in April, which is permitted by Supreme Court rules when an emergency application is denied by a single justice.
The full court received the most recent request to Gorsuch, which denied it without comment during its closed-door conference on Friday.
For what it’s worth, MSNBC host Katie Wang celebrated keeping a 74- year- old man in prison for what amounts to political retaliation:
