In light of Israel’s conflict with Hamas, the White House apparently has been considering whether to take Palestinians from Gaza as migrants.
Top Biden administration and U.S. companies “discussed the utility of the various options to absorb Palestinians from Gaza who have immediate family members who are British citizens or permanent residents,” according to internal federal records obtained by CBS News.
The United States Refugee Admissions Program, or USRP, has been proposed as a means of welcoming Palestinians from Gaza, according to the papers. CBS News added:
According to the files, senior U.S. officials have even discussed removing more Palestinians from Gaza and processing them as immigrants if they have National relatives. The negotiations would need to be coordinated with Egypt, which has so far turned down the invitation to many residents of Gaza.
Prior to being granted entry to the United States, potential refugees would need to pass a number of security and health screenings, including lasting residency, housing assistance, and a path to becoming Americans.
Local public health officials report that as many as 34, 000 Civilians have died in the Gaza fight, and that hundreds of thousands have been displaced from their homes, despite their difficult to estimate exact numbers. Egypt and another nearby nations have resisted welcoming immigrants. Israel launched its invasion into Gaza following the tragic October 7 terrorist strike at the hands of Hamas last month, which killed over 1, 200 Israelis, most of whom were residents, including women and children.
The report that the United States is looking to buy Palestinian refugees has not received any comments from the State Department and the White House.
