As his Manhattan test drew to a close on Tuesday, Donald Trump was held in judicial contempt for violating a gag order that forbade him from speaking to anyone in his hush-money case. He also received a$ 9, 000 fine.
Justice Juan Merchan of the state Supreme Court made the decision shortly after taking the chair and after promising to let Trump attend his brother Barron’s high school graduation.
The judge ordered the nine insulting Truth Social content to be removed by 2:15 p.m. in an accompanying written order, noting that Trump would be imprisoned for violating the law.
The judge did n’t buy Trump’s argument that sharing things others had said did n’t violate the gag order.
There is no denying that the defendant’s intention and goal when reposting is to let his visitors know that he supports and accepts the posted statement as his own, according to Merchan.
The court has warned the defendant that it will not tolerate continued deliberate contraventions of its constitutional orders and that, if necessary and appropriate, it did impose an incarceration penalty in these circumstances.
The prosecution requested punishment for Trump for what they claimed included more than a dozen violations of his constitutional rights, a joke order for him to not comment on trial participants, and more economic sanctions. Since that demand, they said he’s violated it another four days, which Merchan may regard at a reading on Thursday.
Trump showed up in court merely before 9:30 a.m. sporting his trademark red knot and navy suit. Eric Trump, who appeared to be the first member of his family to go the trial, and his legal team and brother, who gave the impression that he was the first to go to court.
Around two hundred pro-Trump protesters had gathered in Collect Pond Park across the street from the court by 8 a.m., carrying” Make America Great Afterwards” colors emblazoned with the former mayor’s face and one with the phrase” Complete the wall” emblazoned on one.
” Our younger Republican statistical support is surging, in elections, CNN and Siena, and the Republicans across the state as well. So I believe it’s important for people to organize, support Trump, and aid all the Republican so that we do well in November, according to Bobby Walker, evil head of the New York State Young Republicans.
Gary Farro, Michael Cohen’s past banker, is expected to examine the former Trump fixer’s attempts to covertly give movie star Stormy Daniels to remain motionless about an alleged affair with Trump on the day of the 2016 election.
Cohen pleaded guilty in 2018 to , violating campaign finance laws in connection to the Daniels payoff, tax evasion, and lying to Congress about Trump’s business dealing with Russia. He received a three- year term, half of which he served at his Trump Park Ave. apartment.
Trump, 77, has pleaded not guilty to , 34 counts of falsification of business records, alleging he concealed reimbursement to Cohen for paying off Daniels by recording it as payment for legal services.
Prosecutors say Trump’s payments to his former lawyer, issued in a series of checks throughout his first year in office,  , capped a yearslong scheme devised at an August 2015 meeting , at Trump Tower between then- candidate Trump, Cohen, and former publisher of the National Enquirer David Pecker.
Jurors last week heard , extensive testimony from Pecker , over four days. The prosecution’s first witness, who was granted immunity to testify in Cohen’s federal case, claimed he was willing to serve as the Trump campaign’s “eyes and ears” by identifying false information and commissioning flattering revelations about his adversaries.
During around 30 minutes of testimony, Trump’s longtime executive assistant Rhona Graff said contact details for Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal were , stored in the Trump Organization’s servers , and said she once saw Daniels at Trump Tower.
The former president and likely Republican nominee for the 2016 presidential election, according to the former president, denies all allegations and claims to be the victim of a witch hunt led by Democrats. Trump has regularly sent email blasts claiming that he has been a victim of gag order violations and has used the court case to raise money for his current White House bid.
Trump faces four criminal charges as he fights for the presidency once more. He has pleaded not guilty to numerous charges, including one alleging that he planned to rig the election results and cheated with national security information.
