Following their setting up an camp on the front yard of the University of Georgia on Monday morning, authorities on the side of the street detained several demonstrators.
Organized by the group Students for Justice in Palestine, the protesters erected a tent on the Old College Front Lawn near the north school, demanding that the school offer” cooperation, protection, and the reporting and divestiture of financial relationships with zionist organizations”.
The overwhelming influence of scholar opinion and profit over the Arab people’s lives. Our officials are more concerned with maintaining their exclusive careers than the continuous massacre of Palestinians by the Israeli occupation, the team wrote. Their supposed power is insufficient to the collective power of students, university, and workers who are all committed to advancing justice and the rights of the Palestinians on campus.

Around 20 activists had reportedly swarmed the camp and refused to comply with police’s orders to leave their houses, according to Fox Atlanta. Greg Trevor, University of Georgia official, wrote that the protesters , “were advised frequently, for more than an hour, that the tents and walls they had put in place had to be removed and that they may comply with appropriate policies”.
They also had the option to relocate to one of our properly designated forums, according to Trevor’s article, where they were also offered by Student Affairs staff to make reservations and relocate, but they turned down. At 8:30 a.m., UGA Officers were left with no choice but to arrest those who refused to comply with our policies despite receiving numerous warnings that they would be detained for theft.

” While the University of Georgia steadfastly supports freedom of expression, we will not lose control of our school to organizations that do n’t uphold University policies and threaten the health of those who live, work, and review here,” Trevor continued. ” The University of Georgia remains an organisation where thoughts, beliefs, and award can be explicitly expressed and debated”.
At least 16 people were arrested, according to Newsweek, though it remains vague what fees they may encounter.
