According to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency ( DARPA ), a U.S. military research and development wing, an artificial intelligence ( AI ) program has begun piloting a live aircraft in aerial combat scenarios.
The Air Combat Evolution (ACE ) program, which DARPA calls home, has moved from the flight simulator to real-world aerial combat maneuvers in a real aircraft. Beginning in 2023 and continuing in 2024, the ACE system piloted an F- 16 warrior aircraft variant against an opposing people- manned F- 16 in within- visible- range combat scenarios, also known as dogfighting. The alleged air fight tests do represent a brand-new growth and weaponization of AI.

The simulated shootouts, using real aviation, have been continuing at the Air Force Test Pilot School at
Edwards Air Force Base, California.

It seems as though ACE has moved beyond simple flight instruction to military flying.
DARPA claimed that the ACE program’s second battle manoeuvres were performed in September of last year.
” We built up in safety using the maneuvers — first defensive, therefore unpleasant, then substantial aspect nose- to-
head activities where we got as close as 2, 000 foot at 1, 200 kilometers per hour”, USAF Test Captain class
assistant secretary Lt. Col. Maryann Karlen said.
