According to a report from Politico Playbook on Wednesday, the newly elected chairman of the Republican National Committee ( RNC ) is already backboiling from his pledge to spend “every day” of 2024 on electing Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to spend the majority of Tuesday trying to stop the embattled House Speaker from being treated fairly.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA ), an actual conservative and real Republican, has been working against Johnson for his various betrayals, including passing a bloated government funding plan that allowed Democrats to obtain everything they wanted, casting the decisive vote in favor of continuing to levy warrantless surveillance on Americans through the renewal of section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act ( FISA ), and finally passing a sizable foreign aid package that, among other things, sends billions On Wednesday night, Greene is scheduled to make an announcement at a press conference that will lead to a privileged voting on her formerly submitted motion to veto Johnson.
Her decision comes after Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced on Tuesday that Democrats had voting for the action to stand Greene’s movements in exchange for his numerous disappointments of Republicans, effectively preventing Johnson from being ousted. The Democrats ‘ unprecedented move effectively seals their power over what happens on the floor of the House for the remainder of Johnson’s career, but brief or longer that may be as Speaker of the House, by a shaven power grab by the minority group in the sharply divided chamber.
What’s particularly interesting about this is that Whatley has managed to entice him into the discussion, and not just on the Democrats ‘ side of Jeffries and Johnson but also on the Republicans ‘.
” Michael Whatley, the just installed , RNC co- head, had now briefed Greene’s own House Republicans on the importance of group cohesion that night, but Greene did n’t present. He delivered his pointed message to her personally: Do n’t move against Johnson”, Politico Playbook reported on Wednesday morning.
Next Playbook includes a supply who is well-versed in Whatley’s dialogue with Greene. ” He said, one, this is not good,  , and two, we want to grow and expand the majority in the House”, the “person acquainted with Whatley’s information to Greene” said according to the document. He made it abundantly clear that any disturbance to the event, including filing this motion to vacate, would not advance the cause of party unity.
Whatley himself afterward made a statement in the news article in the newsletter calling for “party unity.” Whatley’s offer reads: “nothing is more important than group cohesion and ensuring that we are focused on conquering Joe Biden , and Democrats in November”.
Republican chairs typically avoid inter-party discussions in Congress and concentrate solely on defeating Democrats, but Whatley’s choice to support a deeply unpopular Johnson is intriguing in that regard. Whatley’s steps in this instance, however, are especially concerning because they appear to be in violation of the commitments Whatley made when he was foremost elected as the RNC chair.
In fact, Whatley stated in his first meeting as the RNC president less than two months ago that he fully understood that his job description was to choose Republicans over Democrats.
” This time, the following eight months, are all about making sure that we win in November”, Whatley told Breitbart News again in early March. ” We’re going to focus on winning,” the saying goes. The vote must be obtained and the vote must be protected. Every money raised and spent at the RNC will been put toward those two goals. We are going to work really, really closely with the government’s plan, and we’re going to make sure that we are a smooth functioning. At the end of the day, the RNC was built 146 years ago with one purpose, which was to elect Republican presidents. We are working up and down the country to win up and down the ballot because we are aware that there are Senate races and House races that are really important to us. However, obtaining and keeping the ballot is how we’re going to do that.
Later in the interview, he stated that” we are going to work all day every day to make sure we are going to win in November.”
Well, it’s clear that spending the entire day doing the Democrats ‘ bidding on Capitol Hill is not going to help you win in November. Where are the ballot-gathering initiatives that the right so desperately needs? Where are the Whatley-provided promises of election integrity? What is he doing about fundraising operations? Whatley and Lara Trump, the new co-chair of the RNC, had claimed in the original Breitbart News interview that their selection as the party’s new leaders represented a “new dawn” at the organization, which grassroots donors had completely suffocated under the previous leadership. But has anything really changed? What’s the difference between the two parties, and why should grassroots donors give to the party at all when Whatley is trying to steer GOP affairs on Capitol Hill in any way to achieve the outcome Democrats would want to see happen?
Whatley is interfering with House GOP affairs, Whatley is standing with Democrat House Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and RNC spokeswoman Rachel Lee has not responded to in-depth inquiries from Breitbart News on Wednesday morning. Nobody in Whatley’s orbit attempted to have off-the-record conversations about this matter, but no one disputed what Whatley did on Tuesday on Johnson’s behalf.
