On Wednesday’s spread of MSNBC’s” Alex Wagner Tonight”, Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Rep. Pramila Jayapal ( D- WA ) stated that Democrats are” trying to destroy hatred” by bringing bills , that divide Liberals on the subject, like the , Antisemitism Awareness Act, away for a ballot. And that if we wanted to combat antisemitism,” we may introduce a bipartisan bill and we would have a whole-of-government approach that involves educating people about what hatred is and what it is n’t and making sure that we are all speaking with one words.”
Do you have a essay explaining why the range was so big, asked host Alex Wagner?
Jayapal responded,” Yeah, Alex, I do, and that is that, however, I think Republicans are trying to destroy hatred. They want to pass legislation that actually divides Democrats, and what we really need to do is to stop hatred, which I believe every Democrat and several Republicans do, would be done through a whole-of-government approach that involves educating people about what hatred is and what it is n’t and making certain that we are all speaking with one message. Republicans should use it to justify their hypocrisy and use it as a weapon for what is only for political gain, not to fight antisemitism, in my opinion, which is very harmful to the cause of eradicating it. So, that’s why I think they brought this bill, because they knew that it would not get full Democratic support, because it does n’t get full support from the Jewish community. It is not fully supported by those who have examined this problem and said we must be very cautious about how we define it, and that, by extension, this is being targeted and tied to education resources that go to schools. Thus, it has amazingly important ramifications”.
The act passed the House 320- 91 with 133 Democrats voting in favor of the bill along with 187 Democrats. The costs had 15 Liberals co- sponsoring it, together with 46 Democrats.
