Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, suggested collaborating with liberals like Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to improve her chances of holding onto her leadership position following the EU Parliament votes.
EU key Ursula von der Leyen is on the lookout for new friends as she seeks a second five-year name as the president of the European Commission in the wake of the rising flood of nationalist sentiment and rage over the problems of the neo-liberal mission imposed by Brussels.
The German politician opened the door to joining forces with the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR ), which are expected to see their ranks rise in the Strasbourg-based EU Parliament following the bloc-wide elections in June during a leadership debate hosted by POLITICO on Monday evening in the Dutch city of Maastricht.
The Commission chief said that a partnership between her centrist European People’s Party ( EPP ) and the ECR would depend “very much on how the composition of the Parliament is, and who is in what group.”
The mere idea of a relationship between the liberal communist coalition partners von der Leyen, who have been working with von der Leyen to advance a radical green mission in Europe since 2019, has riled the leftist alliance partners from the Socialists and Democrats team, and the Greens, who have since relied on the team to support such a partnership.
After the debate, socialist candidate for Commission chief, Nicolas Schmit, declared:” We will not be able to vote for a program that has been negotiated with the ECR.
Either you accept the extreme right because you need them or you declare there ca n’t be a deal because they do n’t respect the fundamental rights our Commission fought for, he said.
The candidate for the Greens, meanwhile, Dutch MEP , Bas Eickhout said:  ,” What I heard was that she’s not excluding]working with the ECR] … We Greens exclude them and I think this election will then be about this choice”.
” Within ECR you have the same people that want to weaken Europe, that want to water down our green policies”, he added.
Euronews warns the move could” totally backfire”.

Von der Leyen, who ‘ failed upwards’ in 2019 from her previous role as Angela Merkel’s defence minister, which left the German military in a ,” catastrophic” condition, has become a darling of international globalist institutions, with WEF founder Klaus Schwab even referring to her as a “visionary”.
However, the leadership of the EU has been mired in a myriad of crises, including the Chinese coronavirus, the economic crisis that resulted from the supply chain chaos of the lockdowns, and the energy crisis sparked by the Russian invasion and the Ukrainian conflict, which the EU’s top diplomat previously acknowledged had completely caught the leadership completely off guard.
Under her leadership, the bloc has continued to see significant waves of illegal immigrants coming from Africa and the Middle East, with little effort from Von der Leyen trying to stop the flow, and at the same time, as hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees have flooded the EU, further putting strain on the country’s asylum systems across Europe.
Farmers from Portugal to Poland have started up and shut down important infrastructure and motorways in protest of stringent environmental laws and globalist free trade agreements that allow foreign agriculture to shave money from local farmers. This has also led to a popular uprising against von der Leyen and other European elites.
Conservatives and populists are likely to win significant victories in the European Parliament elections in June because of the combination of these factors, with right-wing parties predicted to win at least nine EU member states. Von der Leyen’s chances of a second term, which was already on thin ice, are further hampered by the rising populist sentiment, as she surprisingly slipped past the parliamentary threshold by a margin of nine votes during the 2019 leadership election.
Although the EU leader has established close ties with fellow female leader Giorgia Meloni and has been working closely with Tunisian and Egyptian governments to allegedly halt illegal immigration, it is unknown whether the European Conservatives and Reformists as a whole would support her re-election bid.
Following the June vote, Meloni’s Brothers of Italy is expected to hold the position of leader in the ECR. However, the conservative Law and Justice Party of Poland, which had long had been in conflict with Von der Leyen over issues like abortion, LGBT ideology, and illegal immigration, is expected to hold the position of second-largest party.
