The Catwoman actress shared a story about a allegedly unpleasant experience she had with her dentist, who, she claimed, was hesitant to even mention the word “menopause.”
I was at the doctor three days ago, and I wanted to talk to him about an issue, and I said to him,” You know why I’m having this issue, right”? And he says,” Yes, I know”. I said,” Tell me, why am I having this problem”? He said,” You tell me why you’re having the problem”. I said,” No, you tell me why I’m having the issue”. And we went back and forth:” You tell me, you tell me, you tell me”.
I finally realized he was n’t gonna say it, so I thought,” Okay, I have to do what no man can do. I have to declare it”. I said,” I’m in ovulation! Okay? And that’s why I’m having this problem”! And he said,” Oh my God, I could not say that to you. Glance at you. You do n’t look like you’re in menopause. I could not claim that, and if I said that to my female customers, they’d blow me”.
” I knew that is why I’m here doing this job, because it has to remain destigmatized”, Berry said. ” The sorrow has to be taken out of menstruation. We must discuss this incredibly common aspect of life.
” Our doctors ca n’t even say the word to us, let alone walk us through the journey of what our menopausal years look like, or our years after that”, the Monster’s Ball actress continued.
” So I know that every other girl around this country is having these true events that happen to me, and I know that every other lady around this country is also having these genuine times,” Berry continued. ” They’re lost, they’re afraid, they do n’t have direction, and they need help”.
The costs, known as the Advancing Menopause Care and Mid- Life Women’s Health Act, is sponsored by senators in both parties and seeks$ 275 million to go toward study, raising awareness, and training health professionals on , age- related care.
The proposed legislation has received combined responses, with some saying the issue is simply not severe enough to be receiving so much attention.
