General Asim Munir, the head of the Pakistani army, stated on Thursday that the military was” also conscious” of its” legal limits” and that it “expects others to prioritize adherence to the constitution as well,” a statement that was perceived by spectators as a veiled warning to its competitors and detractors.
Since jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s removal from office in April 2022 through a no-confidence voting, Pakistan’s government has become more critical of its role in politics. The defense, according to observers, believes it is key to Pakistan’s life and remains the most powerful institution of the state, with impact across non- defense spheres, thanks in large part to its years of strong rule.
At a passing out ceremony held at the Pakistan Air Force Academy in Risalpur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Gen. Munir was cited as discussing legal restrictions.
He claimed that the restrictions on freedom of expression and appearance are clearly set out in Article 19 of Pakistan’s charter. He argued that those who violate the constitution’s distinct prohibitions on freedom of expression cannot point their finger at others.
Gen Munir made a separate statement on Thursday at a distinct event, stating that the country could not be diverted from promoting prosperity and prosperity by bad propaganda and social media trolls. He warned against tolerating any endeavor to instigate volatility.
” Let us all reject negative forces ( a reference to critical voices ) together and focus on Pakistan’s journey of development and stability”, he said.
A situation involving allegations of intimidation and meddling by six of eight judges of the Islamabad high judge is now being heard by the Pakistan Supreme Court. ISI, an arm of the army, is an internal affairs agency.
The judges gave a number of instances of alleged interference, including one involving Imran Khan, and mentioned instances where they claimed their loved ones were abused and assaulted, and that their homes were quietly monitored to persuade them to grant favorable judgments.
