On November 24, Baltimore County Police officers shot their wife, who was also reportedly requesting assistance. They likewise exchanged deadly gunshots with a Parkville resident.
According to the Maryland Attorney General’s Office’s Independent Investigations Division, a shot fired by police during a fight with Arnel Redfern, 52, also struck his wife Maxine Redfern, 48.
According to ballistics information, her husband even repeatedly shot Maxine Redfern.
Police arrived at the child’s Maple Avenue residence at about 11: 30 p. m. in response to call for a local interruption.  , Body- camcorder movies showed , that as officers knocked on the door, a lady called out “help me”! before the front door opened and gunfire erupted in. According to the movies, officers retreated to the home while avoiding vehicles in the street.
Officers found Maxine Redfern dying inside the home after Arnel Redfern passed away at the field.
Three officers — Christopher Schanberger, Andrew Burns and Andrew G. Langley— fired their arms in the dangerous experience.
According to the county officials ‘ coalition agreement, which forbids the division from disclosing officers ‘ full titles after police killings or in-carrying deaths, the attorney general’s office had previously used their last names and years of service to identify the officers.
Maxine Redfern , sought protection , from the judges as she divorced Arnel Redfern, saying her father had abused her physiologically and kept her from leaving the house. Although she received both a temporary safe order and a last protective order, the final order did not require her husband to leave the house or stay away from her.
Arnel Redfern, who was found guilty of a gun-related offense in the 1990s and wholly barred from possession of firearms by the condition, signed papers claiming to do so. How he obtained the gun that the police recovered in November is unclear.
The Independent Investigations Division is still investigating the fatal shooting along with three 2024 Baltimore County situations: a , fatal police shooting in January , at a Pikesville petrol station, the , dying of a man in police custody , days afterwards and , the April death of a Baltimore Beltway , drivers following a police achievement.
