Republican governor of Arizona Just as the Senate approved the bill and sent it to her table, Katie Hobbs signed it right away, repealing it from 1864, which almost all abortions are prohibited.
Democrats joined two Democratic state lawmakers on Wednesday to push the overturn, which passed 16 to 14. Following a week of votes in the condition House, three Democrats and all 29 Democrats voted to support the reform.
In a blog to X, Hobbs wrote,” Now, we did what 23 rulers and 55 legislature refused to do and repealed the entire abortion ban during the Civil War of 1864.” Because I believe that women should make the choices that are best for them and that politicians do n’t belong in the doctor’s office, I will do everything in my power to protect our resuscitation rights.

The position must abide by the 1864 law, which forbids all pregnancies, excluding those that save the mother’s life, and places an extradition word of two to five years in prison for abortionists, according to a traditional selection made on April 9.
Justices heard claims in the case,  , Planned Parenthood of Arizona v. Mayes/Hazelrigg, in December and were asked to consider if Arizona’s 15- year pregnancy control, signed into law in March 2022, overrides the older rules.  , While the jury did not rule on the validity of the 1864 laws, the judge issued a four- to- two , selection, with one recusal, finding that the 1864 law was “enforceable” over the newer 15- week limit.
Repealing the 1864 limitation makes way for the country’s 15- year limit to be state law.
Democrats want to come after the state’s 15- week limit while also, and “plan to argue the 15- week limit and its lack of exceptions for rape and incest is also unpopular”, CNN reported,  , noting that Democrats even plan to target prone Republicans at the state legislature level.
A proposed article that would establish a legal right to abortion in Arizona may eventually supersede the 15-week control and help for abortion up to 24 weeks and after, with exceptions for the life and health of the mother. Pro-abortion activists in the state are also, moving forward. One of the nearly a dozen states where activists are attempting to codify the right to kill the unborn is Arizona.
” Repealing this 1864 ban is a huge step in the right direction. But the fight is n’t over. Arizonans can enshrine abortion in our state’s constitution this November and permanently defend our rights, according to Hobbs in an earlier post to X.

Due to ongoing litigation, Democrat Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has stated that the 1864 law wo n’t become law until at least June 27. However, the repeal will not go into effect until 90 days after the Arizona legislature adjourns, leaving the state’s abortion landscape , in a temporary limbo.
Mayes requested on Tuesday that her office give the Arizona Supreme Court an additional 90 days to decide whether to file an appeal with the US Supreme Court.
