Even though the University of Chicago has been “pretty tame here compared to a lot of the other places,” according to New York Times columnist David Brooks, the school is sending out” somewhat ominous” emails about how bad things have turned out, according to Brooks on Friday’s” PBS News Hour.”
Brooks said,” I’m teaching at the University of Chicago this name. The camp at our school is located nearby, just a few hundred yards away. And the university had a very clear policy, we celebrate your right to express your point of view, but we do n’t allow you to make the campus violent, we’re not going to let you disrupt campus, we’re not going to allow you to disrupt learning. And, now the president, Paul Alivisatos, sent out an internet to everybody in the neighborhood saying, we celebrate the right to make your claims. However, the students have been destructive. They’ve torn along Jewish symptoms. They’ve silenced listeners. They’ve made the school — they’ve interfered with learning in the school. And therefore, he sent out a somewhat menacing message. And I must admit, items are a little more sane in this place than in many other locations. But, what Americans support is completely speech. What they do n’t support is what looks like anarchy. And so, I think, if the protests continue to wander in the way they’re veering, you could see some very significant implications, which is why Biden is speaking, which is why Sen. Chuck Schumer ( D- NY ) is speaking, trying to distance themselves from what the activists are doing”.
