Larry Summers, a Harvard professor and leader professor and former president of Harvard, said on Friday that America’s enemies may be” taking great assistance from the scene that our young coming elites are making on so many of our leading school campuses, and even more by the craven responses that are typifying university leaderships.”
Summers stated,” This is very sad and alarming to me. As I’ve said on your present before, David, I think the United States is in the most risky political time we’ve been in perhaps two decades, given what’s happening in China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, and so forth. And it seems to me that anyone who lives in one of those nations is greatly encouraged by the sight produced by our youthful potential elites on so many of our leading school campuses, and even more by the cynical responses that typify university leadership.
He continued,” I believe this is a failure of a basic component of education, which is the gifting of people with the capacity to consider serious moral issues in serious way.” Some of the protesters exhibit ideology, but some are motivated by outside financing and agitation. And I regard the ideology of those who live by a principle of legal defiance and are prepared, for their cause, to take punishment. However, I believe that when I see spectacles like the one from Columbia University that demand that exams been canceled or grading been halted this year because of what took place on that college, I think that shows a level of decadence. I’m hoping we can get things back on track.
