Alan M. Garber, time president of Harvard University, threatened to place pro-Palestine protesters on “involuntary leave” at the school.
Garber explained in his letter to faculty, staff, and individuals that the camp established on Harvard University’s school has led to “numerous” problems and school activities and test having to be relocated.
According to Garber, “important events and activities have had to walk abroad” for Harvard College tests. We have had to drastically restrict admittance to Harvard Yard due to safety concerns raised over the past two weeks, including those raised by students who slept outside immediately. He added that demonstrators and the camp had impacted many students ‘ “ability to rest, study, and move readily” around the school.
The email continued:
The progression of the encampment poses a major risk to the University’s educational environment, as I write this simple message today. Involuntary leave of absence from their schools may be requested for those who participate in or continue to do so. Among other relevance, learners placed on spontaneous leave may not be able to stay for exams, does not continue to reside in Harvard cover, and must continue to be present on school until reinstated.

” Garber’s threats represent a significant and unprecedented escalation by the University,” Harvard Out of Occupied Palestine ( HOOP) said in a statement, according to the Washington Examiner.
The group called for citizens in the” Harvard and Boston group” to join near Johnston Gate for a rally at 7: 00 p. m. on Monday, according to a blog on HOOP’s Instagram.
Garber acknowledged in his speech that the” right to free speech, including protest and protest, is vital to the function of the study college”:
But it is not infinite. It must be done in a manner that respects the freedom of our community members to work, study, and take advantage of the opportunities that a private campus has to offer. Some people’s voices are protected by the camp, which has caused them to change how they learn and work during a crucial day of the semester.
The email from Garber comes as Melissa Nobles, the governor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, announced on Monday that protesters involved in an encampment on the school’s campus who did no deliberately left by 2: 30 p. m. may be placed on an” time educational suspension.”
The New York Police Department raided an academic building on the campus, prompting Columbia University to announce that its main commencement ceremony would be canceled almost a week later.
