According to a North Korean research institute, North Koreans were required to swear fidelity oaths on Kim Jong Un’s holiday for the first time since he assumed power in 2011, according to Reuters.
” Kim Jong Un’s decision to host a fidelity swear meeting on his 40th day, as he begins his 13th season in power, signals a shift towards democratic assertiveness, departing from his predecessors ‘ approach”, the institute said.
The South and North Development Institute ( Sand ), which put the photos of the oath in an elaborate folder on Friday, confirmed that the oaths were administered on January 8 and Kim’s 40th birthday.
The nuclear-armed nation has not publicly disclosed Kim’s birthdate, and oath ceremonies typically take place on the birthdays of his dad and grandparents, who were the earlier rulers.
North Korea may identify Kim’s day as an established celebration as early as next month, Sand’s president, Choi Kyong- hui told Reuters.
North Korea has stopped referring to founding president Kim Il Sung’s April 15 birthday as the” Day of the Sun” for the first time this month, according to a European tour company with colleagues in Pyongyang and experts who monitor standard media, according to a report from Reuters.
Since its inception following World War II, the Kim family dynasty has ruled the nation, strengthening their hold on power by creating personality cults in their place.
