Governor Greg Abbott of Texas wrote a letter to President Joe Biden in opposition to the administrators ‘ request to exchange National Guard products from state to federal power. According to the plan, the newly established Space Command should be able to relocate some National Guard units from the National Guard.
The Texas National Guard is a “terrible threat,” according to Congressional Proposal 480, released by the U.S. Department of Air Force. In a letter to President Biden on May 3rd, Abbott wrote that Congress has huge required a governor’s consent before products can be removed from the National Guard he commands. Congressional Proposal 480 had set a dangerous precedent by deviating from this prudent arrangement and allowing the Secretaries to destroy National Guard units on the fly.
Governor Abbott is in line with a recent statement from the republican Council of Governors, which requested on April 22 that the Department of the Air Force rescind its Congressional Proposal 480. Without the governors ‘ approval, the proposal would pass federal regulations and transfer 14 products currently under the control of the National Guard to the U.S. Space Command, according to The National Guard Association of the United States.

Governor Abbott opposed the programme because it violated federal regulations that required the governor’s consent before for transport, despite not having any products that may fall under this direct plan.

In recent years, users of the Texas National Guard have bravely responded to storms, fire, and a variety of different disasters, including the one at the Texas–Mexico borders. The Texas National Guard most recently used an MQ- 9 Harvester to assess the situation on the ground and plane to dump water in the state’s largest fire in Texas story. The Texas National Guard responded to 530 proper State of Texas Assistance Requests during COVID-19 with more than 4,600 troops deployed to help 17 state companies in all 254 Texas counties.
The Texas National Guard’s crucial role in securing the country’s southern border with Mexico under Operation Lone Star was not made known by the government.
Abbott concluded:
Before products can be removed from the National Guard he commands, a governor’s approval has long been a requirement. Discover 32 U. S. C. § 104, 10 U. S. C. § 18238. Parliamentary Proposal 480 had set a dangerous precedent by deviating from this prudent arrangement and allowing the Secretaries to destroy National Guard units on the fly. The Texas National Guard members must always be prepared to deal with gang activity, natural disasters, and other forms of conflict.
Parliamentary Proposal 480 should be withdrawn by the Air Force’s U.S. Department. The U.S. Department of Air Force should collaborate with the administrators involved in attempting a power grab in Congress rather than trying to stifle it.
On April 30, 53 administrators wrote to Secretary Austin pleading for reconsideration.
According to the governors, “national guard assets are crucial components of states ‘ and territories ‘ responses to crises.” Governors must continue to have complete control over these assets in order to properly guard both America’s communities and operational readiness.
According to Austin, “any national efforts or legislative steps that reject or diminish these specialists will adversely affect our ability to serve the region and significantly harm the relationship between states and the federal government.”
