Moosa Zameer, the Island ‘ foreign minister, made it clear that President Mohamed Muizzu’s decision to travel to China before India was driven more by convenience than by any underlying political change. He more addressed rumors about military pacts with China, pointing out that the Maldives does not intend to house overseas army on its soil.
Dismissing speculations of defence pact with China, Zameer said,” I do n’t think there is any military pact with China. The Maldives ‘ president has made it clear that we are never bringing in any foreign forces, rather, that we are. The leader made travel stops in China and Turkey. We discussed a visit with Delhi, and I believe that’s primarily for pleasure. However, we thought it might be a good idea to put it off for the good of both factors, adding that Muizzu’s upcoming trip to Delhi is still being discussed.
Zameer emphasized the significance of India-India monetary assistance. He stressed the importance of continuing cooperation between the two countries and acknowledged the benefits of American assistance in the form of offers and debt relief.
In addition to working with neighboring nations like India and Sri Lanka, Zameer reiterated its commitment to peace and security in the Indian Ocean area.
He reacted to questions raised about Chinese vessel ports in Maldivian waters by saying,” We issued personal rotation and friendly portable permits, and diplomatic clearances from the Chinese side, which is very common in Maldives. But they did n’t come for research in the Maldivian waters, we have not permitted the Chinese vessel for research in the Maldivian waters.”
On derogatory remarks against India, Zameer said,” If you have seen as you said, we have said that it’s not the stand of the government or we believe that it should n’t have been done. We are taking proper action to make sure that this does n’t get repeated. There has been a mistake, in social advertising. We have now passed that stage and the Islands and India’s governments are aware of what has occurred.
Zameer’s attend comes in the wake of recent conversations between India and Maldives about replacing American military personnel stationed in Islands in a timely manner.
In an effort to rekindle the tension between India and the Maldives ‘ political relations, foreign ministers of India and the Island will discuss bilateral and regional issues during their visit.
