Support organizations claim that Israel has blocked the flow of desperately needed humanitarian aid to the war-torn Palestinian territory by closing two important crossing points into the Gaza Strip for days.
On October 7, when Hamas militants launched an extraordinary attack on southern Israel, stoking the terrible continuing military battle in Gaza, fighting broke out.
Since the Israeli army took control of the Arab area on Tuesday, the Rafah passing, one of the main humanitarian access items into Gaza, has been closed.
” The situation is quite chaotic and fast changing”, said Arnaud Camilli, a supply coordinator for Doctors Without Borders ( MSF).
Three weeks after it was closed due to rocket attacks by Hamas ‘ military aircraft, Israel announced that its southern border with Gaza, Karem Shalom, was reopened on Wednesday.
Nevertheless, the MSF member claimed that this has never altered the situation there.
He claimed that the Israeli government has announced the Kerem Shalom crossing’s beginning, but that no help has been able to enter because of the security scenario.
UNRWA, the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, has also said no aid is entering through the southern Gaza Strip, including much needed fuel.
Israeli officials claim that the Erez cross into northern Gaza is still available.
” Products getting through that remain in the northeast, where they are sorely needed”, said Camilli.
However, Save the Children’s head of humanitarian policy and advocacy, Alexandra Saieh, claimed that Erez crossing entry has been limited.
” Erez never became fully operational”, she said during an online press conference.
She continued,” The humanitarian access required to stop the famine that was anticipated back in March has not been provided.”
Also, support groups have set up their offices, warehouses and administrative centres mostly in the north of the Arab country.
The second area hit by the Israeli surface offensive on October 27 was attempting to transport aid between the south and north, which has been a challenge.
One of the bodily obstacles is the destruction of roads, as are the gates that Israel has set up in the area’s main Wadi Gaza, which strictly regulate the movement of people and goods.
” In the last two weeks, almost no help has entered Gaza, at a time when the charitable needs are big”, said the MSF agent.
” Up until now, there were only 40 cars traveling through Rafah every day, and that number has since fallen to zero.”
The closures, according to Medecins du Monde’s Helena Ranchal, have also prevented the health team from traveling to Gaza and ejecting the injured.
Charitable organizations also said that costs have soared in recent days, with one gallon of gas reaching 40 dollars ( 43 cents ) and 12 dollars for a smoke.
Because we do n’t have fuel, UNRWA spokesman Juliette Touma told AFP,” We ca n’t collect aid” at the crossing points.”
The World Health Organization mind warned on Wednesday that only three days of energy are remaining in facilities in the southeastern Gaza Strip.
A jetty constructed by the United States to receive help for Gaza has just been completed.
” The effectiveness of the wharf is very much vulnerable to external factors, climate conditions. We still do n’t know what the inspections are going to be like”, said Saieh of Save the Children.
” It could become another stranglehold for help”, she added, noting that aid shipments by property are more economical.
The$ 32 million pier has many risks, and NGOs fear that the private sector may be responsible for handling and delivering aid.
Similar concerns surround the Rafah passing.
Aid was loaded onto trucks driven by Arab aid workers for submission in the place after it was operating in the area between Egypt and Gaza.
” There’s been rumours that at some stage there will be a change of the border crossing to a personal business”, said Jesse Marks, the Middle East top advocate for Refugee International.
We’re currently type of jogging in a very strong unknown.
