On Friday, Israel’s security cabinet approved extending the Israeli Defense Forces ‘ ( IDF) presence in Rafah, though only on a limited scale, and holding talks with Egyptian mediators to reach an agreement with Hamas regarding the release of prisoners.
In light of the president’s registration this week that the United States is withholding weapons and weaponry from Israel in protest of its decision to attack Hamas in Rafah, the vote was seen as a censure of the Biden administration.
The safety cabinet, which deals with more urgent military decisions, is one degree above the battle cabinet.
The Times of Israel reported:
According to Hebrew media reports, the surveillance government approved the IDF’s expansion of Rafah operations last night.
Israel believes that the growth should be measured against what the US would characterize as a “major functioning” and not cross the threshold.
Due to concerns over the one million plus citizens who live there, US President Joe Biden earlier this year made a warning that he would stop some offensive weapons from being shipped to Israel if it entered the Rafah community centers.
The government also instructed the Israeli team negotiating the prisoner and ceasefire deal to continue working toward a resolution and to try to come up with a new plan that may lead to a breakthrough, according to Axios.com.
Israel believes it may damage Hamas’s final four regiments in Rafah to stop the organization from taking control of the Gaza Strip and starting to attack Jewish neighborhoods once more.
The effect of an expanded Rafah function on humanitarian circumstances has piqued the United States ‘ problem. The IDF announced on Friday that it had allowed 200 000 liters of fuel to be delivered to Gaza for foreign aid purposes.
