Winston Marshall, former part of the suburbanites- rock band Mumford &, Sons, rebuked former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ( D) to her face during a subsequent Oxford Union conversation.
During the April 25 conversation, Marshall criticized the Oxford Union’s claim that” This House Believes Populism is a Threat to Democracy.” Pelosi had argued that certain Americans she described as , “poor souls” looking for answers have turned away from Democrats due to their position on “guns, gays, ]and ] God”. According to Marshall, leaders purposefully altered the concept of populism to fit their purposes.
” ‘ Conservatism’ has become a word used interchangeably with ‘ racist.’ We’ve heard’ ethno- republican,’ we have’ sociopath,’ we have’ hillbilly,’ ‘ redneck,’ we have’ horrible,'” Marshall said.
” Leaders use it to show their contempt for ordinary people”, Marshall added.
Marshall pointed to a 2016 talk from previous President Barack Obama when expressly ,” took offence with the idea that Trump been called a nationalistic”.
” If everything, Obama argued that he was the nationalist. If something, Obama argued that Bernie was the populist”, he said. ” Anything wondering happens. If you watch Obama’s speeches after that level, more and more just, he uses the word ‘ nationalist’ interchangeably with’ strong man,’ ‘ authoritarian.’ The term changes significance. It becomes a bad, a disparaging, a slur”.
Marshall addressed the Capitol protests on January 6, calling them” a dark day for America,” but she also noted Pelosi and her Democratic colleagues were n’t almost as upset when Antifa used political violence against government house.
What I had to state was not what Nancy Pelosi liked.
Democracy is not a danger to democracy.
She belongs to the Democratic leaders.

” I’m sure Congresswoman Pelosi will agree that the entire month of June 2020, when the federal courthouse in Portland, Oregon, was under siege and under insurrection by radical progressives, those, too, were dark days for America”, he said.
There is no similarity it, Pelosi said right away,” There is no equivalence there.”
“My point, though, is that all political movements are susceptible to violence and, indeed, insurrection,” Marshall said. “Democracy is not a danger to democracy. Populism is democracy. And why else have universal suffrage if not to keep elites in check?”
Marshall also pointed out Pelosi’s dishonesty by actually being against conservatism, believing that the , “left was supposed to be pro- creation”.
” Today, particularly in America, the crony left have become the establishment”, he said. ” I suppose for Mrs. Pelosi to have taken this side of the argument, she’d been arguing herself out of a job”.
” Now, do n’t get me wrong, we need elites. If President Biden has shown us something, we need someone to manage the places”, he said. ” When the leader has significant memory, it’s not just America that crumbles, the whole world burn”.
Marshall criticized Pelosi and the Democrats for not accepting 2016 despite admitting that Trump may include accepted the 2020 election results.
” But may  , Hillary in 2016, but may Brussels and Westminster in 2016, and but, also, should Congresswoman Pelosi instead of saying the 2016 election was, quote,’ hijacked.'”
” It was”, Pelosi interjected. ” That does n’t mean we do n’t accept the results of it”.
The movement was “debated by Marshall and Pelosi finally received a passing ballot from those attending the Oxford Union occasion,” according to Fox News,  , 177 to 68.
