NEW DELHI: In a remarkable event near Normandy’s Rouen, two French jail soldiers lost their lives when a prison van was ambushed. The van, which was taking prisoner Mohamed Amra, also known as” The Fly,” was hit by a car at a toll booth as they travelled from court to prison.
Following the incident, gunmen opened fire on the jail soldiers, resulting in the death of two soldiers and leaving two people in critical situation. A massive chase involving a number of police officers and divisions has been launched to find the culprits. Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, stated on X that “everything is being done is being done to find the offenders.”
Mohamed Amra, a 30 year older man who escaped from jail in 1994, has been identified by the prosecution as the escaped criminal. Amra, who has relations to a group in Marseille, a city that is grappling with drug-related gang violence, was found guilty of larceny on May 10 and had been charged with kidnapping and murder. As Amra was returning to court in Évreux after attending a court hearing in Rouen, the ambush took place around 11:00 ( 09:00 GMT ) near a toll booth on the A154 motorway.
European Justice Minister Eric Dupond- Moretti confirmed that the soldiers were shot with “heavy arms” by the convict’s partners. The intruders fled the scene in a vehicle that was abandoned close to the toll wall where the assault occurred in a car that police believe has been recovered.
North-south France has been subject to obstacles, and authorities are responding to every tip they can.
One of the officers who passed away left behind a wife and two children who were supposed to celebrate their 21st birthday in two days, and the other left a woman who is five months female, according to Mr. Dupond- Moretti in a press conference following a turmoil system meeting.
He vowed that “everything- and I mean anything- will been put in place to find the perpetrators of this horrible crime” and that their punishment had “be in accordance with the crime” ( in accordance with the law ).
