Allege college officials have’ military’ campus,’ cruelly punished’ student protesters
Initially, it was Columbia University students; today, hundreds of faculty and staff members plan to reach without New York Police Department officers leaving the school.
The attack will be limited, but, the , Columbia Spectator , reports the possible strikers also will “do function that instantly serves students”.
This means academics did n’t “withhold grades, endorsement letters, or other’ scholar- serving’ work”.
The NYPD “has created an unsafe work environment,” according to those planning to reach, especially for members of minority populations, who are overwhelmingly profiled by officers, according to a press release released on Friday.
The declaration accused Columbia representatives of an “arbitrary usage of power” which resulted in the “brutal consequence” of scholar protesters.
Professor Jack Halberstram, whose university page notes he researches queer theory, female principle, and female &, gender studies, accused President Minouche Shafik and the board of trustees of “wreaking devastation on campus”.
Rebecca Jordan- Fresh ( represented ), whose faculty bio says she’s an “interdisciplinary female scientist and science experiments scholar whose work explores the mutual relations between science and the social hierarchy of gender, sexuality, class, and race”, claimed Shafik and other school officials have “militarized” Columbia.

According to Jordan-Young,” the administrative procedure for scholar protesters resembles that of a military junta.” ” All existing laws have been thrown out, there’s no owing approach, and control operates on the premise of innocent until proven innocent”.
Art History Professor Alexander Alberro said Columbia’s behavior has been “reckless” and” cruel”, and accused officials of “ripp]ing ] apart the fabric of a liberal arts education” for many students.
From the account:
In response to the second wave of detention on April 18, Faculty and Staff for Justice in Palestine at Columbia, Barnard, and Teachers College announced an , scientific boycott , of all University activities, including Commencement.
FSJP- CBT’s boycott demanded that the University halt administrative proceedings against students, agree with Columbia University Apartheid Divest’s divestment proposal, reduce NYPD from campus, and , unsuspend , Columbia’s chapters of Students for Justice in Palestine and Jewish Voice for Peace.
” The police assault on our campus relied on a false narrative that our students are dangerous, violent, and hateful. At the press conference, Jordan- Young said,” This slanders our students and misrepresents the encamped students ‘ explicit rejection of bigotry against anyone. It also distracts the substance of their statements.” We are proud of our students for challenging their governments and universities to account for funding this constant assault on the Gazan population.
At a Columbia panel discussion six years ago about current Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and his accuser, Christine Blasey-Ford, she and other panelists had exactly challenged that in light of Jordan- Young’s remarks about due process.
When a student claimed that Blasey-Ford had been “unfairly subjected to a legal framework,” Jordan-Young agreed and said the U.S. legal standard of “innocent until proven guilty” did not “allow alleged victims of sexual assault” had been” subjected to a legal framework.”
