Sensors in the Republican Party criticized the Biden administration’s decision on Tuesday to impose tariffs on Chinese energy cars as being more focused on President Joe Biden’s plan to advance his green agenda at the expense of American manufacturers.
Sen. J. D. Vance ( R- OH), a powerful advocate of British companies, told Breitbart News in a statement:
Joe Biden’s regulations for energy cars have been a total disaster for American workers. This is a fraudulent attempt to conceal the fact that one of our most important industries has been severely harmed by his far-left, alternative agenda. The American car market will be back stronger and bigger than ever when Donald Trump re-enters in the White House.
Sen. Marco Rubio ( R- FL ), a fervent China hawk, even said in a speech to Breitbart News that the taxes were coming very soon — three times into his presidency.
Taxes, while a device of strategic importance, had be wielded with vision, no past. While these taxes are a good action, President Biden’s pause has already done harm. American companies have been trampled for overly long by unfair Chinese rivals.
Rubio also addressed a letter to the Biden administration explaining why it was only putting more tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles ( EVs ), as opposed to Chinese combustion engines. The email said:
It is crucial that any updated price regime properly addresses the extinction-level threat that Chinese cars, including those with internal combustion engines and electric ones, pose to American manufacturers and the workers they employ. I urge you to rethink this foolish, half- cooked decision that may compromise the future of America’s manufacturers.
Republicans contend that Biden’s March authority, which would have made the majority of cars sold in America electric vehicles or hybrids in 2027, may significantly harm the U.S. car industry than the tariffs may help them.
Rubio claimed that “both” internal combustion engines and Chinese electric cars pose a “extinction-level” threat to American manufacturers and the personnel they employ. ” I urge you to rethink this foolish, half- cooked decision that may compromise the future of America’s manufacturers”, he said.
Vance and Rubio have been touted as possible candidates for Trump’s vice presidential nominee. Vance took Trump on a trip to Manhattan Courthouse on Tuesday to fight allegations that Democrat District Attorney Alvin Bragg fabricated company records in order to get the 2016 presidential election.
Similar statements were made by previous president Donald Trump and his plan. Trump told writers,” They’ve also got to do it on different vehicles and other materials because China’s eating our lunch right now”.
His press minister, Karoline Leavitt, said in a speech:
This has nothing to do with protecting American workers, as evidenced by the fact that these taxes just apply to Chinese Batteries and vehicles driven by gasoline. It’s all about Crooked Joe’s plan to end gas-powered cars while forcing Americans to purchase ultra-cheap electric vehicles they do n’t want and ca n’t afford.
Foreign medical equipment has also been subject to tariffs from the Biden administration, but one British company called them too little and too late and said they would not help him.
” It’s too little, too late. China has gained a strong market position in the U. S. while the presidency dithered”, Scott Maier, CEO of Blue Star NBR, told Breitbart News.
While some of the tariffs will increase this year by 25 to 50 percent, a 25 percent tariff on rubber medical and surgical gloves wo n’t go into effect until 2026.
As Breitbart News has reported, after one month of Biden being in business, China increased its share of health boots to the U. S. from 14.2 percentage to 26.8 percentage. In December 2023, that promote increased to 44.15 percentage, becoming the U. S.’s best provider.
” At this rate, if everything changes, the U. S. may be dependent on China for about 60 percent of health gloves used internally in 2024″, Breitbart News’s Matthew Boyle , reported , in February.
Even a 25 % tariff on Chinese-made gloves would still result in lower prices than those of American-made gloves, according to Maier, because the Biden administration needed to impose a 100 percent tariff on them.
” For , a , levels worldwide playing area where places like the U. S. and Malaysia is thrive, something closer to a 100 percent price is needed. Our nation is in an exceptionally vulnerable position given our , medical state’s overdependence on China”, he said, adding:
We can rely on China for a lot of our rubber gloves and are currently relying on them for a lot of them, which means China has a lot of leverage given that it has the ability to have a significant impact on not only our medical system, but also our first responders handling fentanyl, our surgical food processing, and our semiconductor factories building important chips. This tax return, after an inadmissibly longer two-year airport, seems to disregard everything China has done since COVID hit more than four years ago.
The taxes come just weeks before the 2024 vote.
Politico , reported , on Wednesday that the Biden administration really wanted to cut some of the tariffs on” thousands of client products” and raise them on large- tech industries, like fresh energy and semiconductors, but any decisions were hampered by domestic debate and a desire to restore the U. S. relationship with China.
The Biden administration has also been making demands on China’s tariffs on behalf of vulnerable Democrats in the Midwest. Meanwhile, Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has called for dramatically raising tariffs on China.
Now,  , Politico , reported, the Biden administration “may have little choice but to double down on Trump’s approach”.
A trade lobbyist claimed the administration had “painted itself into a corner” for the outlet.
In April, Biden previewed his tariffs announcement at a campaign stop in Pennsylvania to steelworkers, a key historic voting block for Democrats.
” It’s just kind of curious that as election season is heating up, Biden is talking about the tariffs”, Maier said.
He claimed,” We stay up at night because you’re letting China hold onto even more market share.” ” China is constantly growing bigger and bigger on all of these medical supplies.” China has a very strong hand to use if we start a larger trade war or some other conflict involving Taiwan or any of those other issues. They can say,’ Alright, we’ll shut down your healthcare system in about 45 days because we’re not going to send boats of all these supplies.'”
