A former top-ranking U.S. border official claimed that the Biden administration has not clearly identified the issue, substantially less found a solution, and that one cause the migration crisis at the southeastern border has lasted for 40 weeks.
While some pieces of the White House and Department of Homeland Security prioritized carrying out President Joe Biden’s plan promises, they have pursued a plethora of activities that do not align with the Border Patrol‘s techniques, according to recently retired Border Patrol Deputy Chief Matthew Hudak in an exclusive meeting in May.
” I think there’s portions of ideas in different agencies. I think the basic question is,’ What is accomplishment?’ So you must first have a perspective or a goal, something you are trying to accomplish, and then you must create a plan to accomplish it. And I believe that’s one of the current conflicts that is:” Is your goal to secure the borders and stop anyone or anything from entering the country that you do not sanction?” Hudak said. ” That’s what I think when we look at border security. That’s what we’re trying to achieve: that no one or zero enters without using the proper procedures through the ports of entry and such.”
However, Hudak claimed that if the Biden government’s” success” for border and immigration policy was to “allow as some workers into the country,” an increase in contacts would not be viewed as a difficulty and procedures may be developed much different.
Biden’s primary 100 times
In his first 100 days in business, Biden revealed immigration professional orders, approved more refugees, gutted a plan that made asylum seekers wait in Mexico, and reunited children who had been separated from their parents as a result of a 2018 Trump presidency initiative.
Within the first few weeks of taking office, the number of refugees arriving at the frontier soared. However, some Democrats criticized Biden for putting his leadership on hold because he claimed the government statistics were too much and that his father, former president Donald Trump, was to blame for the problem.
Hudak and additional officials claimed that the Biden administration had been keeping the issue under control as it progressed from early 2021 to today.
Behind the scenes, Hudak said he had not seen a plan for the frontier, substantially less a need to lower the number of contacts.
” Part of the challenge is that there really is n’t a consistent view or a shared view of what exactly the right results is,” Hudak said.” You end up with behavior, policies that are all individually working in their own unique way that really ultimately compete against each other.” I believe that’s what we’re seeing happening at the borders right now.
If your point of view is” I want to focus on security at the border so I do n’t have people or things sneaking by me,” then it has n’t been successful and you’re not acting in a way that supports that,” Hudak continued.” What is the success you are trying to reach, in my opinion, really boils down to that? The estimate should then be used to compare the outcomes you see.
Forty times in issue
Under the Biden administration, the number of refugees encountered trying to enter the country may exceed the 10 million mark, which is expected to set a new record for the nation’s borders problems later this month.
There has never been a time in the history of a White House leadership when that many people crossed the border, perhaps in two terms.  ,
Republicans have criticized the Biden management numerous days in congressional hearings for failing to adequately respond to the extraordinary wave of immigrants over the past 40 weeks.
Jonathan Fahey, past acting director of U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, agrees with Republicans ‘ attitude and said the shortage of decrease in illegal immigration to the U. S. is the White House’s problem.
According to Fahey, companion at Holtzman Vogel Baran Torchinsky and Josefiak PLLC,” the reason for the unprotected frontier is the Biden administration has pursued an Open Border plan,” which entails deliberately thwarting any attempts by others to enforce the law. They have thus put their political agenda before public safety and national security.
Theresa Cardinal Brown, a non-partisan expert at the Bipartisan Policy Center, claimed that no president had set the bar for a border that would be considered” secure.”
Depending on who you speak with, there are different ideas of what a” secure” border means.  , For some, it means literally zero unauthorized entries. Indeed, that was a definition of operational control that the Bush administration pushed back on because it was an unrealistic standard, according to Brown, a former DHS appointee from the Bush administration who is now senior adviser for immigration and border policy at the BPC in Washington.
No law enforcement agency in the world is successful at preventing” 100 % of crimes,” Brown added.
Democrats, on the other hand, are more concerned with preserving immigrants ‘ right to seek asylum.
” For many Democrats, the problem is not one of illegal immigration, since it is legal under current law to ask for asylum even after illegal entry,  , but insufficient processing capacity for asylum- seekers,” Brown said”. But that also entails that we can expand our processing to handle the growing number of border asylum seekers.
However, one thing that has caught the attention of both parties is whether the government should be concentrating on deterrence or facilitating asylum.
Changing migrant demographics
Mexican men had been making the majority of immigration to the border for decades, but that changed after a decade ago when Central American families started making the journey, aided by cartels that recruited and paid people thousands of dollars each to bring them to the United States.
According to a CBP official, the smuggling organizations ‘ scope has significantly expanded since 2020, resulting in an unprecedented increase in the number of immigrants being smuggled into Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.
The Biden administration has concentrated on preventing people from fleeing Central America because of better conditions, but that strategy ignores the causes of immigrants leaving other nations.
The CBP official stated in a phone call on Monday that “what you’re seeing is that cartels are recruiting from more and more nontraditional locations to maximize the money that they can make through human smuggling.” The issue is that the laws have not been updated to reflect that changing circumstance.
Some countries, including Haiti, Venezuela, and Nicaragua, do not take back their citizens from the U. S., making deportation impossible, and the cartels know that citizens of these countries will most likely be released into the U. S.
However, DHS claimed in a statement that the organization has been listening to employees since Biden took office.
Instead of hiring outsiders to handle the paperwork needed to be handled for immigrants in custody, it hired several hundred employees. Over the past three years, CBP has constructed nearly a dozen tentlike facilities along the southern border as overflow facilities for holding immigrants in custody.
Hudak claimed that the fundamental issue he experienced while serving as the nation’s envoy to the country for two years under Biden was the difference in ways to achieve a” secure “border.
How do you define a secure border, in essence? ” Hudak said”. Our perspective has always been the lower amount of entries at the border or attempted entries, the better we can interdict those that do cross the border illegally, and we can stop them, whether it’s drugs, weapons, persons.”

Brown agreed with Hudak’s claim that a problem must first be agreed upon in order to find a solution.
” Our existing laws, processes, personnel, and infrastructure are not sufficient to address this new migration, and I do not believe the previous strategies of deterrence and prevention are likely to be effective in the long term with this paradigm,” Brown said”. To address the new paradigm, we need our elected leaders to collaborate on the creation of a new border system. That probably needs to begin with a consensus regarding the issue( s ) they are attempting to resolve.
